This guy knows what he’s doing. Most don’t pump out the crap oil. I’ve been racing and turning my own wrenches with the help of some old factory pros. Once in a while you get lucky to get someone that can explain how to do things properly.

It's good idea is to put some oil in filter housing so it won't run dry at startup. I tighten those small cover bolts with 3 fingers after I stripped one and had to redo the threads. Also I screw the mesh filter nut all the way by hand. That way I can tell if it went in right and won't get crushed (yep, done that as well).

I have a 350 SXF 2011 in perfect order and the owner manual suggest using 10w60 oil. I have tried different w40 oil, including Rotella and expensive synthetics, and the engines runs hot and the transmission is hard to shift when it happens, usually on a longer 30/40 minutes moto or much sooner in deep sand. I never have any of these problems when using synthetic Motul 10w60. The engine run colder and smoother. No need to be a rocket scientist to easily feel the difference. I change oil frequently, at 5 h approx. I used Rotella 15w40 in my previous CRF450 with no problems. Just saying.

Great video overall… Just 2 things. 1.) The service manual says to plug everything up, lean the bike over and pour about half a bottle of oil into the area where the filter seats. 2.) It means nothing about dry cranking the engine to get rid of residual oil. Not a fan of this and would avoid

At 7:08 when you put the filter in, why does the manual say to lay the bike on its side to fill the oil filter compartment 1/3 with oil and fill the oil filter with oil?

Instead of grease I've always used anti-seize as it will not wash off with oil and it comes in a couple of temperature ranges so it can be used on some very hot surfaces. Also when tighten fasteners I use my right arm which is bionic and calibrated in torques units.

@tomnekuda38183 жыл бұрын
@@chamjack Ha! I agree.....doggone stuff is as persistent as a used-car salesman......but that's part of it's good side, too, as it sticks around and generally does not make the parts extra slippery and then they end up backing off or guys over-torque them and strip threads. I worked for Dow Chemical in a very corrosive environment and the anti-seize absolutely would not let things corrode like other lubes......so, I kinda got used to it. I was in Michigan then and learning to ride.....I think I hit every tree in the state at one time or another.....bet a fella can still see the scars from my bars. Good talking to you....Keep the Faith. Tom
@chamjack3 жыл бұрын
@@tomnekuda3818 yep, you are spot on that it works like no other. I mix it in with grease for things that I don’t get into a lot (aka, linkage and swing arm bearings) and they hold up well when I finally do service them again. 👍🏼
@glenndavis27623 жыл бұрын
In this instance, grease is better as anti-seize has a fine grit in it - so you don't want that to mix with the oil.

Awww Jay you normally do quite well but this is a hack video. I never get why people make hack videos when they are supposedly making videos to help those that know less then you! A person that does not, or has not wrenched much often has ZERO feel or understanding what torque numbers feel like by hand feel. Plus the lack other basic mechanical principals! You did not recommend torqueing things but those small bolts on the oil filter cover are very easy to screw up when the torque is quite low - 6 Nm or 55 inch pounds or 4.4 foot pounds. The others are often over tightened as seen here too. Here is a much better video then this one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4KreYSQadajgaMsi=0s5TSQVYMCX6SSqj
