I couldn't agree more. I primarily come to YT to see people create and share information. It should be like a video GITHUB where the goal is to help and inspire. I'm growing increasingly tired of all the "look what I bough with the money I make off you people" tubers.

I’m glad that you are keeping the fenders. The story is invaluable and very cool! If you can live with it, don’t paint them either. Merlin’s for the grill? He recently did a project with his nephew but maybe all of the leftovers went to Ohio…

21:22 You might not thank me for saying so but I'll say it all the same - turning a rectangle into 2 triangles will create more strength than turning 1 rectangle into 2 rectangles (or 2 squares). When you come to fasten the skin you might want to ask a Semi-trailer building place for some suggestions or wheel over to them and let them assist with pneumatic pop-riveting guns and large (wide diameter) aluminium headed rivets - or however they do it.

Braising is a copper allow almost bronze and brass. There is even oxy-acelilene welding of mild steel, silver soldering. Even welding aluminum. You have to be careful as the weld temp of aluminum is about the time the whole thing melts.

Mike, perhaps this is already on your mind but I think it could be a good idea to consider some form of exterior armor down low all the way around. Just wipe some boiled linseed oil on those rusty fenders about once a year or so. They’ll be fine, especially out there in the desert. You can thin it a little bit with mineral spirits if you need to. Good progress on the camper. It’s so cool, you watch, in about a year everybody will have one.

I watched my dad braze up a Knaack toolbox for my truck that had huge cracks in the lid on both sides with old coat hangers. My uncle was going to haul it off for scrap. When my dad finished with it and ground down those braze welds, it looked new without paint. My dad told me that's how he learned to weld before getting enough money to buy and run a rig truck for the pipelines in early 50s

5:45 Over here in rainy Scotland, it appears that what you are producing there Shawn are some first class rust traps. Looks to me that water can get in, but then get stuck behind all that sheet metal you're welding inside the cab. I suppose rust doesn't count where you can't actually see it? Outa sight... Tell me you've got a plan to deal with that.
@dirtbillydeluxe
@dirtbillydeluxe 8 ай бұрын
Yes I have a plan. I want to do a single piece of sheet metal for the roof that will extend over the edges of the camper. This should keep it from leaking and rotting the metal. Also, rust is not much of a problem here!
