Mate, the big stone around the culvert looks great. Part of being a tradesman is the artistic flair it lets you use. Those stones are going nowhere and the whole thing is massively overbuilt in size for the creek it crosses. Throw some nice shrubs in above the stones on the embankment to stabilise the soil and it'll look great and be very resilient.

That culvert should be at least twice as long to account for side slopes. I don't know why everyone wants to cheat on the length then they have all kinds of problems getting the roadbed wide enough.
@DIRT-BOSS2 ай бұрын
@@davidmorse8432 You're wrong man.. you'll see.. nobody's going to put a 40 ft 8 ft tall culvert in 12K worth of culvert.. besides we want to show as much creek frontage as we can.. driveway will be 18ft wide when done
@davidmorse84322 ай бұрын
@@DIRT-BOSS Well, watch it fail when the heavy rains hit it. I have had to fix so many large culverts that were too short because someone wanted to save money. It ends up costing more in the long run because you have to rework it when it washes out. Corrugated metal pipe like the one you used will rust out on the bottom in 10 years too.
@Gooditalian2 ай бұрын
looks like the road bed is collapsing the culvert.
@davidmorse84322 ай бұрын
@@Gooditalian That can happen easily with parabolic designs. The compaction of the backfill is critical and very difficult with a light weight culvert because packing the fill in lifts with vibratory compactors can actually lift the culvert up. A heavy concrete culvert has enough weight to stay put during fill compaction.
@billwendt95712 ай бұрын
Why not PVC pipe? The unit you installed is already half collapsed and has raw ungalvanized edges that will rot out in no time. Nice effort doing the install, but you'll have to redo this again in 10 or so years.
