It Moves! Harbor Freight Trailer Build Episode 11

This Harbor Freight Offroad Trailer is hitting the road!
In today's video we drag it 70 miles or so and get a sense for how it will handle on the road. Then we mount a new roof top tent from iKamper and button up a bunch of loose ends! This was a crazy 3 days but the ends justify the means. Now we head 700 miles to Bozeman and find some dirt to see how functional this will be overlanding as a family!

Might make a suggestion on mounting items that you wish to remain water tight overtime. Instead of using caulking to seal use Putty Tape. You can find it online and has been used to seal rv's for years. It stays pliable and will not leak over years of use. The trailer looks nice! I want to build one for my JK!

Top tip - note where RTT sheds water, with and without its awnings up. I initially accidentally set mine such that water shed from my RTT went right onto my solar controller and into the tub of my M416 trailer.

Light holes in the back can get two white flood light’s as backup lights or turn them on as a camp ground light. Fridge drawer stop could be as easy as a rubber bumper on the door. It’ll stop it from moving when the door is shut. Love this trailer. It’s how I found your channel.🤠👍

@@bonespur2728 Most countries allow visitors to bring their cars in temporarily as long as they're registered in the home country and exported before a certain amount of time. I saw a German-registered VW van driving down the highway in Pennsylvania. It's a bit harder since Australia is an island but he could probably bring it in just like a New Zealander shipping their car over for a few weeks.

What a dream!!! in Italy speed limit weith trailer are 43mph (70km/h) on state road and 49 (80 km/h) in highways and naturally it's forbidden build or mod "everithing" , do it at your ricks (fine or jail), we can only import but need already omologated and germany TUV help us a lot... most car/truck from USA must transit in germany before italy or cant be immatricolated with only different tires!!!

I used a Bussman 15305-2-2-4 Relay/Fuse box for my auxiliary circuits in my truck and it was really easy to wire up

Struts on the outside gives that extra little bit of arm movement space inside that already cramped little spot. Function over form. It actually fits the theme with some other items hanging off the side to conserve space. so it's not out of place.

Agreed. I have gull wings on my patrol rear windows and the struts get in the way all the time. I have a solar panel on the roof top tent with gas struts. It's out in the weather 247, no rust in 2 years, I think it's the best way to go.

Totally agree with shocks on trailers, especially these single axle trailers. I put shocks on my single axle truck bed trailer and it is very stable. Nice build!

trailer is sweet. next big wiring job i recommend different colored wires with tracers so you can end up making a full wiring schem if trail repair ever needed to be done, more efficiently rather than only red wires as power.

A suggestion I should have gave you in start of this project if I didn't: you might like having painted inside with light color off-white / eggshell or like then easier to see inside and for finding stuff inside. The interior lights work better too. Definitely shocks I installed a set on my MJ bed trailer.

Check out E6100 adhesive. It comes in black also. Far superior to any store bought construction adhesive. It can also be used as a sealant. We used it in the electrical department manufacturing cement trucks.

I totally get Mrs. Dirt Lifestyle’s thoughts on the dark tent fabric. We have a travel trailer, and our dog wakes up as soon as the sun is up. We had to put blackout panels over the windows in the doors to make everything dark enough so she doesn’t wake us up at sunrise every morning, lol.

you can use pvc tubing/conduit for running electrical wiring under the trailer as it holds the wire securely to the bottom of the trailer and is nonconductive so if a wire does chafe it doesn't short to ground, it also prevents the wire from getting snagged on brush or tall grass under the trailer. you can use the pvc caps to terminate the conduit and drill holes sized for the wiring and use grommets to seal it from dirt and water... also if you do break the pvc its cheap to repair

Love it! With the alternator and solar switch. Id put it through a relay. That way you can have it always on the solar and when the vehicle turns on it itll switch the charge

Drilled and slotted rotors may sing quite the tune. I put a set on a a pick up truck, hit up forest service and logging roads, dirt or gravel roads, not even close the duration your rig likely to see. I ended getting some small rocks stuck in the rotors. Maybe i just got supper lucky, the noise never really went away, as I removed rocks new ones got jammed in.

I plan to build another trailer some day.. gonna use another rear axle from a old 80's front wheel drive Chrysler Aries K car.. Turned it upside down an got LOTS of ground clearance !
