Easy Offroad 4x4 Bumper Build!(You could build this👍)

This really is a very easy offroad 4x4 bumper build! You don't need uncommon tools and equipment to build a custom off-road bumper. I use a number of tools that make this process easier but all you need is a welder, grinder and cheap Harbor Freight bender to build a bumper like this one.
This is my favorite type of stuff to build! There are a number of unique challenges when building a custom 4x4 bumper and today we will face them all! It's a constant battle of form vs function. On the one hand, you'd like to make something that is damn near bulletproof but on the other hand it would be nice if it looked somewhat decent. This video is a little bit different than the other ones you have scene of mine. I gave this video a fast pace on purpose. If you've seen any of my other work, you've watched me explain how a dimple dye works and how to use a drill press. For this one I kept the detailed explanations to a minimum . The intention of this video is just to be fun to watch and give you a little bit of motivation to get out in your shop and build something on the fly! Enjoy!

A simple trick to mark that tube guard flat across is set a piece of wood or steel square tube on the bumper then hold the tube guard in place and draw a line across. nice and straight on both sides.

I built one for a 94 K1500 diesel out of 5 lengths of 2 inch schedule 40 pipe. I used my Sears 110v welder, Harbor Freight tube bender, mounted a Harbor Freight 12000 lb winch, and a Harbor Freight light bar. It looks homemade, but deer (and small cars) shudder with fear when they see me coming.

For cutting tube to the right angle I’ve found the easiest way is to tack weld the bar to a piece of plate steel or a welding table and then get something about an inch to so tall (as tall as you need to clear the gap) and then get a pencil or pen on that and trace around the base. Then just pop the bar off the table and cut the line and it should be perfect. Tacking it to the table isn’t completely necessary as you could use magnets or a buddy to hold it but it is nice to have the tube in one solid place to ensure it doesn’t move while marking it.

Pipe Master makes a super slick template adjustable dealie that works super cool for those weird angles. I've used them before. They make figuring out those weird copes and angles easy.

At 8:04 you talk about going from a round surface to a flat surface - what you need is called a Pipemaster (available on Summit Racing, etc.). They come in fixed tube diameters and are just a series of small rods that you can push up to the mating surface, then pull back to trace the contour. You can see a worked example if you search "Pipe Master Tube Notching Template System" here on the Tubes. I haven't used one, but can imagine it'd be quite handy especially for tube-to-tube notching.

Man i gotta quit messin around and get a dimple die set. It makes everything you make look so sweet..i built a similar bumper for my yj out of the original bumper but i made tab mounts that wrap around the side of the frame rail to keep the back of the winch plate from pulling up when winching.

Thanks man! I would like to have capped the frame rails as well. I should have explained this in the video but I need to leave them open because my brother plans on getting an anti rock sway bar. This swaybar uses the hole in the crossmember as a mounting location. Unfortunately I can't cover it.
