Hey! Thanks for the shout-out. I loved seeing the depth of your research. That 24,800 breakout force on the Hyundai would be HUGE. Still, the Volvo you got looks to be in great shape, and I'm sure it will serve you well!

Ok Dirt...I know NOTHING about excavating other than childhood days of playing in the dirt with metal digging toys, but I love the channel. I love watching the moving earth videos, and the lessons. Using what you can get to do the work each of us does is the way it was meant to be. Its cool to watch and hang out with you -- oddly youre causing me to talk to myself while doing things.... ;-) Have a blast with your new machine...

I am a little late on this video! I would like to see you reminisce about a few things! The shelves behind you in this video and the regrets of equipment that you have owned ( like the Kubota skid steer ) and how your mind set has changed! In general, how life has treated you and your family! I love all the videos that you have shared with us ❤️

Congrats on the new machine. Hope it serves you for many years! I think it's awesome that you and Chris were able to get together. It's a shame more folks that are in the same industry can't get along. Professional development will guide those that can share and work along side each other. And also improve whatever industry your a part of! Can't wait to see you kicking dirt with the new machine, and giving ol' floppy bucket some love. Stay dirty, and remember, clean money may spend the same....but dirty money feels better!

I like your comments about JCB. My 82 year old Dad likes the side entry of the JCB skid steer just to be able to get out without climbing over the attachments. He runs a Cat 257 now. Volvo is making good stuff and improving with every year. It’s funny how they bought up older brands and put them under their umbrella. Front end loaders were Michigan’s, graders were Champion, and excavators were Samsung.

Great job on gathering and analyzing specs. I know you did and it is personal but operability is the ultimate decision point! Visibility, heating and cooling, seat comfort, feel of controls, and even noise level. You can not put a number on them but they doggone greatly affect how long you keep the machine!

Matt Straley I couldn't agree more Matt Straley they get hung up and get in the way more than they are handy. I can't see where grading with them is ever productive. That said I find them handy for carrying road plates and other materials. They have plus and minuses I believe it depends on the situation and the operator.

Mike, Congrats on the new machine. I've been watching you and Chris (Lets Dig18) for several months now. I've watched enough that when my JD LX266 mower died, I replaced it with a JD 1025R TLB, 54" deck and pallet forks. I had a good feeling when you looked at the Volvo when you went on the road trip you would buy it. 2K hours and a few dings and dents wasn't going to scare you away. Like myself, you'd rather have something new but when it comes down to it, saving dollars to get a comparable machine that will fit the needs, you go for it. In all actuality, I wasn't waiting to shear some deal worked with you and Chris, he'd upgrade and you would buy one of his excavators. Enjoy the new machine.

I know what you mean about the JCB machines. Leading the way in many aspects but not able to back it up with the quality anymore. I live in the UK and worked for a rental company, only small machines up to 1.5ton. We had clients who wouldn’t accept a JCB machine. The quality on their smaller machines dropped off a few years ago. We ran Takeuchi machines and they were great bits of kit, they took the abuse from people who didn’t need to pay to fix them 😂. The company changed over to JCB and we lost a lot of clients.

I will say that clearly did your homework. Friends of mine who work in the field all love both of your "Finalist" makes. After watching many of your videos (and it's been 2 years now since you posted this).. I agree about the thumb/bucket on being questionable... Though I'm sure your buddy Chris has recommended calling AMI and getting the LD18 models... Buckets and thumbs are easily replaced/upgraded... and Since Chris has posted many a video of him doing general maintenance on his volvo while "in the field".. doing oil changes and such won't be like working on that Kuboba you love so much.... sometimes I wish I was a heavy equipment operator rather than a Database Admin... then again.. I don't have to crawl around under these things (and I'm clausterphobic... didn't used to be.. came with age)... Keep up the good work... your videos take me back to working with my father in my teen years... he's retired now (hell, my kids are old enough that one has kids older than yours... the others can't be bothered yet!)... Chris runs the Excavator like my father... very smooth like it's part of him... but you actually work on them, tear them down and rebuild... and I helped him do that often..

When I was 18 I used to work for caterpillar in Montgomery Illinois bending tubes and working in R Bay after the excavators and wheel loaders get offline I would fix the discrepancy before they were trucked off and sold. At 18 making (1988 $15.00 hourly) was awesome money and working there when I was on breaks from college then Law School before becoming a JAG lawyer in the Army. Fun times, I sure miss being around them. My dad has a skid steer but it's not the same driving a CAT 245 off the assembly line
