I dont possess the same mechanical knowledge, but those moments when you tackle something (prepared for either outcome) and are successful. I have scratched my head when paying others to fix things (b/c it is a time vs learning how) , if they are knowledgeable. Older diesel engines seem to run if fuel/air/oil are present and not governed by computer. Thanks for demystifying this particular injection pump and who knows what I may try to tackle in the future. Fairly new, but enjoy the variety of content.

Mr. DP. Watching this vlog. I've no doubt you'd have made Coast Guard Chief Aviation Machinist Mate in record time. Doing an P&W R1820-53 radial engine change, GE T58 Turboshaft or main rotor transmission change on a Sikorski Seaguard helo would have been a breeze with you in charge. I've done all 3 of those. Tain't easy but we got 'er done. Heck, I bet you'd have gotten assigned to be an instructor at AD (Aviation Machinist Mate A school in Elizabeth City N.C. as a 1st class AD. Yup, you got the demeanor ability to teach students safety wire technique and other lab classes. That fuel pump/governor rebuild was definitely outstanding proof ya got what it takes for that slot. I'm dead serious Mike. I'd have been proud to serve with you or to have had you as one of my instructors.

You know... I’ll probably never repair an injector pump... but if I do, I’ll know where to go for guidance. Now, let me give you a little piece of advice... one of the greatest inventions of mankind is the little white square on the outside of a ziplock bag. Without that square, I’d never know what the leftover parts went to! Usually, a quart bag will do for a simple repair... but I keep a box of gallon bags for those more challenging jobs... and to carry my disassembled mess to the repair shop! Glad you stuck with this... and can’t wait to see the welder in use!

Pulled many of those apart to replace the metering valves and shut down solenoids when I was in the Air Force. The close tolerances for the injection portion of the pump often became problematic with the jet fuel mix we used in our military vehicles. Not enough lube caused over heating of the parts. Pretty much toast at that point and the entire pump had to be replaced. The fix was a proper mix of the jet fuel so that proper lube and cooling prolonged the life of the pumps. Stanadyne's pumps did suffer cooling issues from the factory regardless if diesel or jet fuel was used. The fix was an external heat sink cooler until they redesigned the pumps. About 95% of the Stanadyne pumps I dealt with were on the GM/Detroit Diesel 6.2 & 6.5 diesel engines.

Mission accomplished! You kind of skipped installing the leaf spring on the plungers. You have to set the roller to roller distance to the spec from the manual within .0005" using the leaf spring. That determines the fuel delivery rate. The notch on the governor weight basket is important since the timing marks are scribed on the back plate of the basket. But, I don't actually think you can get it together incorrectly.

thought you would of had to jump the charging system ,, at times they loose there charge will not make elec ,, you put power to the wires for the brushes 12 volts when its running you will hear the engine rev a bit ,, had to do that to a few generators in my years of repair .. I hated basket jobs .. other techs would order parts ,, I got to go put the parts in .. a few jobs there took the whole unit apart ?? they did not need to for the parts they ordered.. great video ,,
