It's a power box rake often called a "Harley Rake" after the first power box rake that was marketed. The Harley Rake is now part of Paladin Attachments. I have had a 72-inch Harley Rake for about 15 years for one of my utility tractors. Wonderful attachment for heavy grading, raking soil with rocks (you can windrow the rocks for collection), and soil prep for seeding. When you set the rake to contact the ground lightly with the gauge wheels it will leave a dimpled surface that is perfect for grass seeding and can be rolled without having to rake the seed into the soil.

I have had a Harley rake for 23 years and it has had some of the toughest jobs thrown at it and it is still my #1 tool for the finish work. It also does a great job on driveways as long as you run a packer over them when you are done. I have used it so muck that I wore the bottom of the chain case off it twice now.

Locates are often wrong as well. We dealt with that years ago. We hit gas lines that weren't marked. Also sometimes home owners add lines that aren't accounted for. This is a huge game changer. You are still required to call in locates. It simply gives you real time data. Just like when you DP had to dig and the county said there was a main water line in the area. Yet they didn't know where it was. Because it has been put in and repaired over the years. Even moved. God bless
@davidsellars646 Жыл бұрын
That rake is really neat. Yes, you need it. That type of finish to a job has to buy you more work. The bucket is a bit out of my realm but I can see how that would prevent some real disasters. Yesterday, I visited Sonsery Equipment in Sacramento to see the first DL550 Minotaur in the area. What a beast. Much larger in person than it seemed in the videos. Being an old fart used to equipment almost as old, the controls are pretty intimidating. There are buttons and switches all over the place. Given that it has only been in the yard for a few days, even the sales manager was having some difficulty. We managed to get the basics worked out enough that I could try it in the dirt. The big problem is that it's very difficult to see either corner of the blade. Otherwise, this thing is built like a tank with some serious steel. The air conditioner will freeze you out! Overall, I'm very impressed and believe that Case has a winner here. It's not even a skid steer on steroids. It is in a class by itself.

I can see that draft control like using a 3 point hitch tractor implement would be an enormous improvement on that ruckus rake. You set it at a specific position/depth and it maintains that across grade and soil variations.. Almost no need for operator adjustment.. Talk to farmer Chris. I'm sure he gets this.
@whotknots Жыл бұрын
Mike most of the 'wires' you mentioned with reference to the radar bucket could be replaced with a Bluetooth or other wireless network. It would enable minimization for the number of relatively fragile material connections by eliminating the communications line between the sensors and the processor/display in the cab leaving only a bare minimum of just one wire providing power. It should also be possible to automate connection for the power coupling between the quick connect system and the bucket. Given that both Wireless and Bluetooth communication are an integrated feature for almost every electronic device these days. Using a battery power supply for the sensors on the bucket that is rechargeable in-situ and/or easily replaceable would also be feasible. That would eliminate any need for physical electronic connections between the radar bucket and machine altogether and therefore potential for operator error to cause damage to a cable/connector and make using quick connect for a radar bucket as easy as it is for less sophisticated attachments. Batteries and wireless communication nodes on a radar bucket could be armored against damage with relative ease and it should also be a relatively simple matter to waterproof them for use while digging around utilities underwater. If the precision with which the system established the location and orientation of detections in 3D is sufficiently consistent, it should also be possible to include a feature which would cause the bucket to automatically avoid contact with a utility by a preset margin. Subject to some circumstances the bucket could be set to position itself over locations where it had already detected multiple utilities on an individual basis by operator command, thus enabling precise identification of their parameters for avoidance. I also recall one of your episodes involving laying field tile near a buried high voltage power line and other extremely dangerous hazards like high pressure gas lines and lesser but no less expensive potential mistakes like water mains can be present in fields. If a radar bucket featured a slightly longer tooth at the center relevant software might be able to automatically scribe the centerline and orientation of a utility/obstacle in the dirt for you using that tooth as a stylus! Man Behind the Scenes and Mr Millennial could be just as happy as a couple of clams in mud!

That radar bucket is awesome, BUT... it'll be fine when an owner operator (financially invested) uses it for it's intended purpose. Unfortunately many users (for example road gangs) will push it beyond its limits and not bother swapping for a proper digging bucket as needed. A better solution might be to fit the radar (minus the bucket) to a thumb, which can be deployed as needed and retracted out the way when digging with a proper bucket. Then no need to swap buckets and much quicker to use as needed. Just a thought... 🤔 Maybe another Dirt Perfect and Flaming Dirt collaboration project for the winter? 😅 Greetings as always from Spain 🍷
