Great teardown. Bike is pretty clapped + needed some proper TLC. Would be great to have a follow up vid of the finished product and if possible, the customers impression after their first ride on the refreshed rig. Always great to see the "oh my god, why didn't I do this wayyyy sooner?!" moments.

Question for you, why do you remove the components from the handlebars, ie the brake levers/shifters/dropper lever? If a customer had paid for a professional fit from us and then we moved everything we would not have a happy person on our hands. Was just wondering, cheers!
@Mapdec Жыл бұрын
To inspect the carbon bars, to make sure everything is cleaned properly, easier to work with. There are no fit concerns here really. There are significant witness marks to put everything back as it was.
@chucktalks63 Жыл бұрын
@@Mapdec Gotcha, was just really curious. I see you take the seat off the seatpost as well. Don't think I have ever done that in all my years of working as a mechanic, and probably never will. People are too precious about their fits/angles.

Great video once again. What's the name of the tool you use to check disc wear?
@Mapdec I have RockShox 35 Gold fork that is still sticky after lower leg service, but the air spring and damper rods are smooth, so it looks like there is some issue with the lower leg bushings. I've found that other people also had similar issues with this fork and some even say that this can be caused by poor tolerances or faulty bushing installation from the factory. Did you have a chance to see that, too? Are the bushings replaceable in this model and if yes, what would be the estimated cost of that? Is replacing the lower legs with Pike / Revelation (also 35 mm) which should have better bushings a viable solution?
@Mapdec Жыл бұрын
Yes, those are all possibilities. Sometimes just resetting the bushings will help.

Pretty filthy indeed! Pretty and filthy... I assume you have to give the old shapeshifter to the customer back so that it will be forever forgotten in the attic. Or could you kindly ask to keep and try to rebuild it during your spare time? About the fork, it looks rather that you released the pressure too quickly and negative chamber did not have enough time to equalize with the atmosphere. It's not a scratch there but a dedicaded bypass port. But knowing FOX, there must be scratches nevertheless. Needless to say you can't just take out the circlip before you decompress the negative chamber, but still gonna say it.
@Mapdec Жыл бұрын
I said in the vid. There was pressure in the lowers. A lot. Customer has just kept adding more air.
@feedbackzaloop Жыл бұрын
@@Mapdec pressure in the lowers is a separate problem to suck down you presented at the table and is rather due to failing seals. One often overlooked is in the bottom cap around the push rod.

@Mapdec Жыл бұрын
Unlikely. The cost of the tools would be more than a new frame and no cycle maintenance course in the UK is going to teach you suspension service to that level.
@bikepackingadventure7913 Жыл бұрын
@@Mapdec at least start somewhere. Do a bit of maintenance by learning and get a few tools, try some more maintenance by learning and get the tools for that and repeat over period of time as knowledge growls and range of tools. This is a good solution instead of potentially allowing a persons bike to essentially fall apart and when to you take it too a bike shop it needs a full rebuild and service with a huge bill. This is what I’ve done and I’m progressing onto wheel building. I can strip and reassemble hubs and replace bearings with no issue now, but actual building wheels is the next challenge I will be trying. Obviously these skills and knowledge is invaluable when out on a ride when you have to fault find and repair when no one else is around to help you. 👍🙂🙂

How not to look after your MTB, they need to be taken behind the bike shed and given a good talking too . Failing that a bloody fat bill might do it.
