Lovin' this channel. Just subbed today. Love the knowledge and humor. This generator action reminds me of when I found a Generac generator at a yard sale a couple years ago. A simple 6.5 horse gas powered 2000 watt jobby that the guy had up for $100. Said he hadn't run it in a couple years. I gave it a pull on site and it wanted to go but the guy told me that as he was getting it out for the sale he tried to run it and it wouldn't fire up more than a chug or so. I bought it knowing that all I had to do was clean the carb and fuel system as it was most definitely gummed up by old fuel. And damn straight, that's all it was. Cleaned everything up, fresh gas, and fresh oil and now I have a nice little electric power source for home or my truck when I need it. Cheers!

I am suprised about your comment that these engines don't get repaired but just replaced. Used to work in a company which build generators in Germany. We were happy about every engine comming in for a repair. Spare parts for industrial engines are dirt cheap. A piston for a 12 cylinder 24 liter industrial engine is a lot cheaper than a piston for 4 cylinder 1,8 liter car engine. Such a huge piston costs as little as 80 Euro a piece. I am talking the whole piston, including the connecting rod and piston rings. Our costs for a general overhaul of a 430 kW engine were 3000 Euro spare parts, 1000 Euro for the regrinding of the crank shaft and the cylinder heads and 80 hours of work. Afterwards the engine was like new and ready to operate for another 60,000 hours (if the maintanance was right). In comparision, a new engine of the same type would cost us around 35,000 Euro.

I rebuild piles of diesels, I'd definitely pull that crank, measure and polish if measure is good. Replace all bearings, not just the one, you'll regret not doing so. May as well hit up the pistons and liners, it's surprisingly not hardly any more expensive for most engines. I work with a crane and drilling company, it's spoiling to have 45 cranes to choose from for plucking whatever out of whatever.

You've got some serious oil starvation issues there...every main and rod journal have been cooked with heat. You may have found the reason already, but that engine was run completely dry...for whatever reason.
@ivo2154 жыл бұрын
It takes quite a bit of heat to blue steel. And it looks like that heat came from the big-end pins.
@georgegibson7074 жыл бұрын
Could it run dry if they simply didn't top up the oil frequently enough ?

Doesn't it have a low oil sensor?
