Important to know that each of their songs is a stand-alone - no two are alike. For me, the joy of Dirty Loops starts with their incredible musicianship, but it's also the anticipation of never knowing what will happen next. And they ALWAYS leave me hungry for more. Jonah (the singer/keyboardist) has said he's interested in composing for screen - and we see that here. This is the most classical of their performances. He's said he sang from the time he was a baby - both parents are choir directors - but you're absolutely right, he went to school for piano. He knew Aron (drummer) and Henrik (guitarist) from school. All were session musicians. Aron got together with Henrik to 'play the music they'd get fired for playing in a session - the stuff they love' and decided they needed a vocalist. Apparently the question they asked each other was "doesn't Jonah sing a little?" When you explore Breakdown and some of the other vocal-heavy performances, you'll see how funny that question really is. His passion may be piano, but his vocal skills and range are stunning.

You'll love everything they do. You'll find all three are masters of their talent. You might check out "Next to You" and their collaboration with Cory Wong on "Thriller" (yes, THAT Thriller) or "Follow the light". After a few more, THEN you'll be ready for "Run Away" 😊

Hey Jam Jam, Yes you’re right, Dirty Loops are unique in every way! Every single song of theirs is completely unique. Glad you appreciated this one, their very latest single. To hear more of Jonah’s beautiful vocals, Henrik’s superb bass playing and Aron’s mindblowing drumming, I agree with Laurie: check out their song ‘Next To You’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ By the way, you’ve guessed that Jonah played an instrument before he started singing, right? Well actually in his case, the opposite is true: he started singing from age one, when his parents, both choir masters, took him to their choir rehearsals and concerts :) but many have commented that the way in which he plays piano, flows so effortlessly into his way of singing, as if it was the one instrument! So maybe that’s what you’ve picked up on ☺️ Looking forward to more Dirty Loops genius on your channel! 👍🙏

Have a nice journey into the amazing world of Dirty Loops. You will be surprised, amazed and blown away no matter which song you check out next. Also check out their credits - often you'll find hillarious things in there (not so much in this one though - but the music during the subtitles in "When the time is right" is actually a part of the song. A bit of a cool down after all the excitement 🙂).

I just love to see someone experiencing Dirty Loops for the first time and have their mind blown. They started the group as a hobby project in 2008, and never thought it would be anything other than that, and did twisted jazz fusion covers of top 40 pop songs. In 2010 they put up a video on youtube (a cover of Lady Gaga's "Just Dance"), as a booking reference, to see if they could get a gig or two, just for fun, as they thought their music was way too unsexy for anyone to actually like it. Needless to say, they were completely wrong and a LOT of people absolutely loved it. Just about everything they've ever released is of this ridiculous musical quality, so you could pretty much pick any song to listen to, and you more than likely would not be disappointed. My personal favourite is one of their more jazz fusion-y pieces, "Work Shit Out". They've all known each other and played together for 20+ years by now, in their late thirties. Jonah Nilsson (keyboard/vocals) and Henrik Linder (bass) even went to music elementary school together and met when Henrik was 11 and Jonah was 9. Aron Mellergård (drums) comes from another part of Sweden and came along when he moved to Stockholm at the age of 16, to attend the same music high school as they did (he was in the year between the other two). Then they all attended Kungliga Musikhögskolan (Royal College of Music) in Stockholm, where Henrik and Aron studied jazz/rock, and Jonah opted for music production as his main subject. Jonah comes from a family of classical musicians and both his parents are choir conductors/leaders in the Swedish church, where the music is of the western classical tradition, so he started singing chamber choir style at a very young age. He started playing classical piano at the age of 11 and switched to jazz mid-high school, but singing in this style came a fair bit later. When they started Dirty Loops he had never sung lead in a band, and didn't even know if he could. In an interview (don't quite remember which one from the top of my head) he was asked what he'd choose if he could only either play the keys or sing for the rest of his life, and he picked the keys without even hesitating.

But in another way she actually is right because this style of singing (which is very different from the classical choir training he was brought up with) came after the piano playing for Jonah 🙂

You nailed it, very good description of the song and Dirty Loops (though the guitarist plays a bass guitar). They are really great musicians, all three, and very creative. Jonah indeed started playing the piano, and sang in choirs, and only when they started Dirty Loops did he try singing in a band. Well spotted! I think we would all be glad if you would check out some more song by Dirty Loops, like Next to you, or the very creative Work shit out.
