No one seems to have mentioned that the title of this song, Rosanna, was literally about the well-known actress Rosanna Arquette, who the keyboardist Steve Porcaro was dating at the time, Porcaro didn’t write the song lyrics, Toto lead David Paich wrote them, because Porcaro wanted a song about her! @reddoxx47542 жыл бұрын
@GloryCarrier22: David Paich has said that the song was about one of his first high school loves, and he's also said that it was about "three girls I knew, all rolled into one." He used the name Rosanna, which happened to belong to the girl who "was going at the time with Steve Porcaro, my best friend", because it "just fit perfectly." After he met Arquette, he said, "I just stole her name and stuck it on there.” At that time, in 1982, Arquette wasn't a well-known actress. The band members have at times in the past expressed some irritation that Arquette claimed the song was about her. Bobby Kimball said, “It was just an opportune moment for her to grab the brass ring and run with it. She was just starting her career, and the song was so big that she went on several talk shows and said it was about her. But I can tell you that it wasn’t. David’s line was always that he just used the name because it fitted into the song. Then she came into the picture and claimed it.”

Guitarist Steve Lukather did a "zero take solo" on the song "Running With the Night" by Lionel Richie. In a nutshel, Lukather was playing along with the song to get a feel for it. I’ll Be Over You, 99, Saint George & the Dragon, I’ll Supply The Love, I Won’t Hold You Back, Stop Loving You…gosh, there’s wayyyy too many hits of theirs to write down lmao this band is made of the musician’s musicians. I’m so glad y’all got to Rosanna. It’s such a good song ! Some upbeat rock with a jazzy vibe thrown in right before the big chorus. Definitely a favorite of mine. Y’all seriously make the days go by a lot easier 😄 Fun fact: the little bluesy jam at the end was all entirely improvised on the spot during recording. If I remember correctly, instead of ending with the chorus, they let the tape run and the band went for it.

Their instrumental score for the end title credits , for 1984 "Dune" film is awesome! They did most the film's score throughout the film too. Yes they're very talented musicians.

Toto's hit got it's name from actress Rosanna Arquette, who was dating keyboardist Steve Porcaro at the time. "Rosanna" was written by band leader David Paich, who was always looking for good ideas for lyrics

Hearing this takes me back the hopeful young nights of early teens. Cruisin'...in a small town's main street or around a huge mall in the big city...this song playin' on warm summer nights.

LOVE how you guys made the comparison/similarity between Toto & Chicago in terms of transitions and theatrical eclectic music. It warms my heart that you guys are appreciating the music from my generation. We really did have so much great music. Thank you for sharing this music with your wonderful observations. ❤❤

As I listen to this, what I can say is that the 80's threw everything and the kitchen at you with the musical styles. It gave you horns, rock guitar, piano, orchestra, harmonies etc. There was nothing untouched by the bands of the 80's

That song always makes me smile, because in the UK a '99' is a tasty soft-serve ice cream cone with a little chocolate bar in it. And no one knows why it's called a 99, it just is! 😄

Each Toto component was a major player in the 80s music industry. Almost all top 10 songs of the decade and even the 90s decade have been played, produced and recorded by some and mostly all Toto members

Any song with Steve Lukather on guitar is a banger. Michael thought so too, so he got Steve to play on Beat It
@RedBud3152 жыл бұрын
Most people talk about the EVH solo in Beat It but, the hook is Luke's riff and with them combined it's probably Michaels heaviest rock song.
@scottNNJ2 жыл бұрын
@@RedBud315 I would say Dirty Diana is Michael’s heaviest, with Beat It not far behind. But this is a Toto reaction, so I’ll just keep quiet now. 😏

You did "Hold The Line" and said the you liked it, and that song came from their debut album which was filled with brilliant music. My suggestion would be to do a video where you do the first 2 songs together, the first is "Child's Anthem" which is a short instrumental piece of only 2:45, and the second is " I'll Supply The Love" which an awesome song with lyrics and vocals that comes in at 3:44. That would bring the whole thing to 7:24.

Great reaction as always! If you wanna dig a little deeper on Toto and this song in particular check out Rick Beato's KZbin channel. He has a feature called "What Makes This Song Great" that breaks down the brilliance of this song. I'm a novice when it comes to music, instruments, etc and found it fascinating.

This is what you get when you bring together some of the best LA studio guys together. Steve Lukathur is always mentioned as one of the best guitarists. Jeff Porcaro was a top-shelf drummer. For this song they recruited some studio horn players, including Jerry Hey - one of the busiest trumpeters in LA.
