I have always liked the 749/999 styling. Absolute classic 👌

IMO none better w/ race fairings from nose to undertail exhaust .. beautiful and did it ever handle ..like it's on rails truly applies .. Aesthetically not for everyone in street trim

I always learn something new watching your videos Dave, even if its just about how to remove that last drip of fluid from inside a bleed nipple🤭with paper rolled into a point.

WD40 a stiff 'detail' brush and tooth brush on the calipers - DONE ! ...I owned a 2003 999for 9 years... super easy to maintain THANK YOU Mr. Terblanche !!! I installed full aftermarket Ohlins RT fork kit w/ came w/a new CNC lower fork clamp, R radial calipers, DU301 shock .. The 'proprietary' Ducati Ohlins are JUNK ..their proprietary SHOWA suspension pales in camparo to Triumph Daytona 955i same era SHOWA by the way.. I had a 102 mm BCM overbore kit, Pistal 13.5:1 HC pistons FBF race spec balanced crank.. Marchesini forged aluminum Kompe wheels.. and a thousand other upgrades.. 149rwhp/86 ft lbs w/ bore kit, 54 mm full Termini exhaust and kit ECU mapped. Best handling superbike of it's era, even today. The Brembo R radial calipers are 100% improvement over axials .. So easy to maintain..from R&R radiator, to clutch shock, valve adjustment, belts .. it was way ahead of it's time Dave ..way way ahead using CanBus auto derived electrical system, in ' war' fairings w/ factory livery it's strikingly beautiful.. Another well done tutorial Dave THANKS !!

Yes! The 749/999's were ahead of their time. I own a very early 2003 999 that I bought new. And even after having it all these years, I still enjoy just looking at it. I also have a 998 that is lovely, but there is something about the 999 that is mesmerizing. My only real complaint is that in stock trim, they are waaaaay over geared. But that is easily remedied. Thanks for the effort putting these videos together for us Dave. Happy New Year and best of luck at the TT!

I’ve always loved this styled Ducati. The red frame, the black boxed swingarm, the mono posto seat unit & the magnesium headlight bracket are my favourite versions. Styled by an automotive designer way ahead of its time but straight after the 916/748 designs.

So much detail, it really is a cool style

Pierobon 'copy' upgraded swinger improves handling immensely.. although in it's 1st year IIRC 2003 with that old ugly grey 1st generation swinger produced in the USA by the way by Alcoa who manufactures aluminum cans ..won Euro superstock championship

Woke up to a new video, best way to start the year! I also use a bit of red rubber grease after cleaning. The 749/999 I really disliked when they were released, as it wasn't the ducati looks we were used to from the 916 family of bikes, but like you said it's really grown on me and I probly would take a 999 over a 916.

If you get a big syringe (fiberglass shop or a Vet) ~£1, you can suck nearly all the old fluid out the reservoir and any dirty looking stuff on the bottom (god knows where that comes from) before you start. Saves a bit of time and brake fluid.

I was advised to be very careful using washing up liquid on metal because they generally have a very high salt content. Not sure if that applies to them all or to bike wash but worth rinsing well if it is high in "Sodium Chloride".
@obsession_engineering Жыл бұрын
That is correct, hence the use of bike specific wash fluid
@weslakegm Жыл бұрын
The manufacturers use salt or brine to thicken washing up liquid and shampoo. You can make as thick as jelly but add too much and it will go thin again.

Thought I was the only one . To get the last little bit of brake fluid out of the brake bleeder . I use rolled up news paper myself. Agreed the 749/999 bikes have grown on me.Did not like them at all, at first. The 748/916/966/998 series are great bikes.

Hi, may I ask you if you can help me with that one thin hose under the engine where liquid / water is supposed to leak. you have 2 tubes pointing towards the ground. one is connected to the airbox but the other one next to it where should it be connected to? in your video you can see it sticking out next to the roll of paper!

Hi Dave, I’m planning to overhaul my Daytona 675 Nissin callipers soon but thinking of leaving the dust seals out to aid the pistons retracting. It’s a dry weather track bike. What do you think?
@obsession_engineering Жыл бұрын
Yes, on race bikes I often remove the dust seals, no real need for them if you regularly clean them

Hmm, how did they follow the highly successful 748? How about "don't change it for the sake of it", and certainly don't "take it behind the factory and beat it with an ugly stick for months!"
