Until NASCAR sees TV money going down, nothing's going to change. The fan does NOT dictate the direction of the sport anymore because the fan is NOT the driving force of the sport anymore regardless of what PR bullshit they try to peddle. As long as NASCAR is getting 2.4 billion dollar TV deals, TV is who they're pandering to, not the ticket buying fan at the track. The people running NASCAR aren't racers. They're business men and women. I have been saying this for YEARS. You can't expect a good racing product from people who don't know racing. As I've said 100 times in the past. If you love short track racing and that's what you want to see, well Dale here owns a little thing called the CARS Tour, which is NASCAR short track racing from 25-30 years ago. WATCH THAT.

I’m 51 and became a diehard NASCAR fan by probably seven, or eight, years old. I grew up in Wilkes county NC and being a NASCAR fan was just baked into the culture. Our family attended most races at N. Wilkesboro, Martinsville, Charlotte, Bristol, Rockingham and Darlington. We watched every televised race, and if it wasn’t on TV, my family was listening to MRN. Having said that, I haven’t regularly watched NASCAR in years. I still love racing though. I follow the SMART tour, I frequently attend races at Hickory, Tri-County, Bowman Gray, and will travel to Caraway, South Boston and ACE on occasion. I never miss an NHRA televised event. I go to all the NHRA events at Charlotte and Bristol. I watch IMSA televised races more often than NASCAR. I don’t know precisely what’s missing from the NASCAR Cup series, but it’s just lost any appeal. If I do watch NASCAR, it is inevitably exclusively the short tracks.

Tires that wear can be part of the solution...but when you're advertising as the best circuit in all of motorsports and clearly want the ratings and attendance to show that, you have to be willing to allow the RACE cars to outperform today's production cars. If a ZL1 or Hellcat has more HP and top speed than a daytona car...or a Martinsville car, that is terrible...and you can't put crap tires on and expect fans to ignore the elephant that has been killing nascar since 2007.

Hey Dale, you talk about cup racing being out of your budget and you can't build a car as an independent and go race anymore. What about late model racing? A late model car is now upwards of 100 grand brand new bumper to bumper and the CARS tour is fueling these high prices. Why not try and help grass roots Friday and Saturday racers with some rules and sanctioning that lower the price tag. Your helping drive nails in late model racing coffin. The average person can't hustle enough to put a competive car together when these guys are paying crazy money on pull down rigs and chassis dynos to win 4 and 5 thousand dollar purses. You added 12" of contact patch for the tires and took all the horse power away. Can't imagine why nobody spins tires off the corner or slides up. You could cut the spoiler off and these cars would still not wreck. Run the rain tires on the dry, give them 1000 hp, make bumpers not line up and get back to not shifting at short tracks. It's a crutch for terrible corners and gets rid of the penalty for missing corners.

Talk to the media people at your favorite team… that’s a branding and marketing component the teams could incorporate and make their brand even more valuable to the sponsors. If someone is smart and visionary enough to put together an unusual and highly visible project around “the team” aspect it would be a very inexpensive (comparatively) way to get major numbers of eyes outside and beyond just the racing community subset. There’s magic to be made offtrack in NASCAR that virtually nobody is doing or has done. What do I know? Nothin… but sometimes I think someone should hire me to script some of the ‘create chaos’ moments Harvick talks about- but you can do ‘chaos’ that doesn’t have negative aspects / fights involved if you have the vision.

I finally figured out that we become so conditioned that we have to contribute to society that when we have put in our time & we've done enough, we can relax & enjoy ourselves now, that we are so conditioned that we have to get up & take on the world that it is hard to be able to allow ourselves to relax & not have anxiety about it. So that's why we feel funny about relaxing when others are working. IMO 😎

Nascar HAS to fix this. The racing is terrible. I just dont understand why we cant run a softer tire, and add some HP.
@christopherlozada64117 ай бұрын
You know options like F1 could be good. Like soft meduim hard tires but the should change the compound a lot cuz teams are smart

If you understood NASCAR and what Dale Jr said about Bill France Sr, They hold all the cards and can do what they like. When they like. As many as three people own NASCAR (Jim France, Lesa France Kennedy and Ben Kennedy, lock stock and barrel)

@@christopherlozada6411F1 style anything is NOT the answer! Back in the 90’s, Goodyear had wear & nascar kept getting them to change things up! The problem is the bigger/low profile tire, reduced HP, lower than ever cars, slap shifter, technology! The list goes on and on! When nascar became the most popular spectator sport in America, they were still using decades old technology! Indy & F1 we’re embracing the current technology & it’s actually never done them any favors! Outside of the 500, what Indy car races come close to 1/2 full stands & decent tv ratings? How many F1 races are actually exciting races that bring unpredictably? At least right now, Cup can say a 10 place started has a chance to win, F1 can’t say the same! If you noticed, a lot of changes have been made in similar vain to F1! Phelps has tried his hardest to get nascar close to F1 in tech! His model is basically F1 that he bases everything on! We need to return to what was in the 90’s & go from there!

Dale jr run at South Boston. You would pack the stands if you come to South Boston.

Hey JR, the biggest problem with short track racing is the lack of usable care for these lower class events( street stock, limited etc). Less cars, less revenue to pay track upkeep and purses and as a result, less tracks. There are no more Nova, Camaro, Mustang, etc, models to build from scratch because the newer models cost 5 times what they use to back in the day. You cant find repair parts because they are too valuable to the restoration segment our the car culture. And face it, we can't all afford top build an IMSA style rig or these Spec Car class types because the rule specs are all about money. So as cheap rides dry up less guys go racing, so we end up with an elite class of silver spoon racers like Jeff Gorden, Kyle & Kurt Busch, and so on. It's just the way of things and you can't change that, Period.

I think nascar should learn some lessons from F1. Give the teams three different tire compounds and the teams must use each compound in the race. Also for safety concern, they need to require a min 😊

I've been watching NASCAR for almost 50 years. What was good before (and when)? And what is bad now? I haven't been watching the past videos. I do remember lots of short track races that were like parades. I remember people winning by laps, rather than seconds. There's no details in this video, just a lot of nothing. School me...

It just seems like they've accepted the decline of Richmond and 2 a lesser extent Martinsville. They could fix it, but have cho$en not to. Time will tell tho

short tracks are fine the cars need adjusted for a better racing product. havnt' watched wrestling, since the stone cold/rock era either jr.. and have no interest in soap operas or tv in general other then NASCAR and NFL. .which both are making harder to watch, moving to streaming and not basic television anymore... and it seems both operating managers keep doing something to make things...... very different .... then the products most of us that been around a while, grew up watching,. some adapt and thrive and others fade out and die... out with the old in with the new... its just repetition of changing times but changes for the better are only in the eyes of the beholder.

No it ain't too late. Make the Cup drivers run trucks at Wilksboro, Richmond, Bristol and I'ma say NH too. Why ? They're the #1 seller in America and the trucks put on a good race. Miss seeing Harvick and Busch run the guts out of em. 2nd option would be the Xfinity cars. If only the fine folks at Nascar would just swallow their pride and admit they really messed up worse than the COT this time. They can keep the Next Gen for all the other tracks but it wouldn't bother me if they phased them out all together.

Knowing NASCAR they'll screw gen 8 up even worse, gen 4 was the peak, gen 5 (COT) was trash, gen 6 was only good at short tracks and road courses and plate tracks plus Darlington, gen 7 managed to ruin short tracks and road courses.
