I really appreciate the insights and perspectives discussed on your show. In this conversation, I think something that Dale was closer to than Mike is that any race consists of a time when one driver competes against one other driver to the exclusion of other cars. It becomes very personal and limited to only one other competitor. Call it emotion, call it skill, call it being smart, call it competitive spirit or whatever, but a driver's priorities can be influenced by becoming so focussed on competing with one other driver that they get real good at concealing the way they win. Hamlin is a veteran and I like that.

If I'm understanding him correctly, Mike was saying that while contact took place, it wasn't necessarily retaliation from Denny, but hard racing. He was saying if this was any other scenario without drivers having beef, it'd just be a hard racing deal. Jr. saw it as retaliation pure and simple, just not overly blatant, but enough to send a message. Me personally, I think either way, Denny got retaliation whether it was intended or not, simply because you have to wonder or even think about it, and the seed of doubt is there. To Mike's point, unless Denny flat out admitted it, you can make the claim one way or the other. To Jr's point, he didn't cut him any slack which was uncharacteristic of how he raced everyone else that day.
