I believe this podcast is one giant therapy session for Junior. It amazes me how much he’s matured from where he started. It could have easily gone the other way. A true man.

Truth. God knows what he was going through having his dad pass away at a track he had to frequent many times on the NASCAR schedule, then with him being a JR, assuming all of the responsibilities from a career standpoint, personal, etc. Hearing all of these stories really gives me perspective because I am not a NASCAR “fan” (seen my fair share of races and had a favorite driver too) but not being old enough to comprehend the magnitude of what the sport went through losing Dale. im sure for JR, all of this is very much needed therapy with a side of good humor and walks down memory lane

@@a_coleman11 You're absolutely right. What isn't being said is Dale and Kelly's battle with Theresa put tremendous amount of pressure on him not having any say whatsoever about the business end of DEI. Theresa just let DEI crumble like it was her way or the highway. We know it ended!!

What makes this content so incredible is it is Dale Jr. taking us all on the journey through his life where he expresses genuine regret, humility, and emotion. Each guest a piece of the puzzle that makes up the picture that is his life in racing. At the same time, this feels very much like a "Conversations with Dad" journey through life as well. Things Dale Jr. wishes he could say to his Dad. What an amazing gift he is giving to all of us. Thank you Dale Jr.

I wasn’t a big Dale Jr fan when he was on the track (nothing personal, just liked other drivers), but I’ve been a fan of his off the track. I always enjoy how real and open he is in his podcast conversations and how he has addressed the difficult parts of things he’s gone through. No sugarcoating, just shoot it straight. Always rooting for you, Junior. Keep making great content like this and giving us new perspectives.

Got a lot of respect for Jr because even though he may think he was young and dumb and made a lot of mistakes. He grew up in a bigger spot light than most people could imagine. The fact he didn’t just absolutely go insane after Sr passed and he had all that weight on his shoulders is impressive. As a fan , yeah I wish it turned out different but I think everything turned out good. Him and Kelly both still major parts of the sport and successful and he got away from the witch and allowed himself to atleast have a chance at something different. But part of me still wishes DEI could have stayed strong and tight knit to see where it would be.

Listening to Dale Juniors raceday scanner in his Bud days with the Eurys was something for mature ears only. How they communicated between each other would make a sailor blush. Right on. What a lot of people don't realize is that the end of the day NASCAR drivers Etc are all the family and that's just the way it is you know. Just like family a lot of times you can pick your nose and pick your friends but you can't pick them. But I say that to say this even though I wasn't an Earnhardt fan, I have no greater respect than what I do for the Earnhardt name in racing. And to see Dale jr. Get up there on a national platform and be vocal about certain instances and situations is just absolutely beautiful and cathartic for everyone you know. It is amazing to see how much Dale Jr. has grown especially since becoming a father. Major props to him for stepping up and being honest about those last days at DEI. For those who are saying this is giving Theresa a break and putting her in a good light….I disagree…..she alone is responsible for DEI becoming a graveyard basically. Go back and listen to the Ty Norris interview and you’ll see how bad it was. According to Ty, she even said if Dale Jr doesn’t want to be here we will just make another Dale Jr!! While we can all agree that Theresa lost her whole world on the last lap of the 2001 Daytona 500, she also became very paranoid mostly about Dale Sr’s image etc…which is totally understandable. However, she didn’t want to be a race team owner and she showed it. If she would’ve turned over the day to day racing operations to Kelly, Dale Jr and Kerry, DEI could still be racing today. If you don’t think she’s vindictive, just go ask Kerry about the lawsuit Theresa filed against him simply for using his last name…..

He was thrust into the spotlight so soon, and he wasn't ready. He wasn't ready for it at all. It may look like he had it under control with all the wins he got between the Pepsi 400 to the It Don't Mean $#!+ 500, but behind the scenes he might have been so stressed out with it all and the concussions just made it worse, and he felt like no one was helping him. Not the Eurys. Not Michael Waltrip. And the witch made his life even more miserable. He couldn't take it anymore and started lashing out at everyone in the organization whenever they even LOOKED at him. It started with the Eurys at the end of 2004, and by 2005, the slow downfall started. The Eurys were reassigned to the 15, whilst Slugger got fired, and possibly by Jr himself (in a previous podcast, he goes into the deep depths of it), and he and Waltrip start throwing fists in some races. He might have started to regret it in 2006, but by then it was too late. The witch by then had gained full power and control and was never gonna give it up in the first place, even if given all the money in the world. And by 2007.... I think everyone knows what happened at that press conference. Sad to see how he regrets everything he did to this day, and he accepts the blame for everything, and up til now he has withheld that from the masses. Hopefully every time he has someone on that he worked with in the 2000s, he gets a bit of closure on that part of his life (like he did with Slugger, Norris, and the Eurys)

Itd be cool if someday, Junior regained the rights to the ashes of DEI. All of the name rights, numbers, Deerhead shop, all of it.

It’s a shame both Jr and Teresa were both so “silly” let’s call it silly. I was on Jr’s side but then I had a step mom that robbed my father, while he was alive.

I agree! She had a cash cow that, in her mind, was unstoppable! A lot of people blame her but I bet she had a lot of leeches in her ear too!

I was on Jrs side because Dale said publicly that he built DEI for his kids. And it was plain to see whatever was going on wasn’t working. He didn’t want to rob her of her fortune. He just wanted controlling interest. Which by all rights was his anyway.

It has to be very enjoyable to be able to talk to people who you worked with and get their take on how everything went south. I really enjoy your videos. Is there any way that you can separate the different types of videos from the ones that you are doing? I watched for a few days and the other videos that are not the “Dale Jr Download “ filled my unwatched feed, so I canceled the subscription. I do want it in my feed but there’s so many that I don’t care for. Thanks for your channel!

Dale jr in my view I believe you put an awful lot of pressure on yourself especially losing your daddy just a few yrs before and you weren't that old and to have to make huge decisions that your daddy use to be making so you and the other drivers could just drive and not worry about the business side of it all. I cant imagine you having the knowledge at that age to understand how to make those decisions and which way to go and who to out in what job. Stepping into your daddy's shoes was a huge undertaking and I know you had Tye and Richie and others to help you but damn that's an awful lot of responsibility to have thrown on your shoulders at a young age and just wanting to have fun and party and enjoy life and drive the race cars and here you are in the position of making the biggest decisions any race team at the highest level could have to make to keep the organization competitive and winning. It wasn't fair to you or Kelly but it also wasn't fair that yall lost your daddy at a young age and had to immediately grow up and understand the whole operation and still drive your cat. So you shouldn't be blaming yourself or feeling responsible when you didn't ask for what happened in your life. If that hadn't happened to your daddy and he lived on DEI and your career driving was going to be something unbelievable to watch with your daddy running the show. I think about that all the time, what it was all going to be like then losing him was so devastating and heart breaking and such a HUGE LOSS to us fans that loved him and his personality and the unbelievable ability to drive that black #3 car. Still brings tears to my eyes thinking about that day and just being in shock that he was really gone. Especially having met him and shaking his hand and talking with him it really hit hard to lose him. I really believe it was best for you to move on to Hendricks and let Rick help you through your career and kind of stand in as that father figure you were at that point missing. Teresa was going to make a mess eventually anyways and screw the whole organization up which she sure did. It should have been yours Kellys and kerrys to run and race in and keep everyone on and working there. I don't know all the ins and outs of what happened with her and the business but I will never forgive her for shutting it down and taking it from you Kids. I honestly believe Your dad built that organization and teams for you kids for the rest of your lives to run and live off and she just didn't give a damn about Dale's wishes.i believe she wanted to hurt you Kelly and Kerry and I feel she succeeded in doing that and that's just a damn shame.

Being in my 60's I look back at my 20's and 30's thinking what a bonehead I was. Didn't START to mature until I hit my 40's.
