I was FLYING yesterday down a road and hit a pinecone and fell directly on the right knee. If I wouldn't have had my knee pads on my knee cap would've been destroyed! I even cracked the knee pad in half 😂😂 I dont care if I look stupid, I'm always gonna wear protective gear.

Hi, I wear protective gear for roller skating but not for ice skating. I have never seen anyone wearing full protective gear on the ice rink, I think I would look silly. This has made me rethink. Better to look silly that have an injured knee cap? I don't know what to do now.

Watching this wearing my wrist brace after falling badly and spraining my left arm. But I'm undeterred! Getting back on skates as soon as my hip flexor isn't spasming. : ) I also ordered protective gear and will wear them next time as a middle-aged learner. I just lost focus for a second as I went to ask the teacher a question and boom I went down. Oops! Great reminder to *always* keep my knees bent. Thankfully I didn't hit my head. Thank you for this. I just turned 49 and started up skating after I had to take a break from paddlebarding. I was practicing on my driveway and learning some new skills. My neighbor was talking to me and I got too close to the edge of the concrete and smacked my tailbone on the edge. I don't want to be afraid to fall, but this hurt. And then, this video popped up on my playlist like it was reading my mind. I am not letting the comments of my friends get to me. I want to get better. I love the way I feel on my skates.

Not to downplay your injury but it is the most common of all in skating. Every single skater suffers from this injury at some point and then returns to skating. Figure/freestyle skaters hurt their tailbones fairly often when learning more difficult jumps. Just know that you will enjoy skating again and again :)

One of my skating fears has always been falling in public...not just falling, but where people could see me. I’ve seen a lot of videos lately of good skaters having spectacular falls, and it gave me some reassurance. If they can fall in public, and put it on social media for all to see, I guess it’s not so bad. Also, falling on your tailbone can hurt for not just weeks, but YEARS. It sucks!

Your happy feed tip is pretty good. I've been doing that on inline skates on every kind of terrain for 20 years and it's a good start. The next step is lifting the landing gear the moment it gets hooked on something, before the plane goes down, where you are the plane. That's for massive obstacles and it takes practices to feel the skates binding and automatically lift knees while throwing your weight backwards to compensate for the tendency to stumble forward. These are great videos.

I took a hard fall on the tail when I was going over a bridge. My fault. I did some kind of little panic move when I got to the expansion joint of a bridge. It actually didn't hurt me but it scared the crap out of this older couple that saw me fall. The man came running to help me as I popped up. The worst injury so far has been to my left shoulder. I guess I bruised or injured a tendon. It's been about a month and I'll get almost 100% then jerk my arm or some guy at the rink runs into me and it sets back the healing. I wear pads and helmet outside but not at the rink. I'm going to start wearing wrist guards at the rink, too. I'm 64 and have only been skating for 8 months after nearly 50 years. Every time I've fallen it's because I was not moving, going to slowly or simply hesitated when I should have sped up. I learn something every time I roll.

As a new skater, practicing at the park in all the pads, I tried to walk a quick shortcut down a small grassy hill in my skates. What's the worst that could happen, right? I'm in all the pads. The EMTs called it a Classic Tib-Fib. Fentanyl would not dull the pain. Over the next week in the PACU (hospital was full) the Orthopedic team did an intermedullary nailing (rod down the tib, screwed in place), and gave me a cool scar from ankle to knee bc of compartment syndrome. It being Trauma Season, I was actually one of the luckiest people in there--wardmates were shot up and torn up much worse. The new residents were shiny handsome and vivacious, and it was a pleasure to be in the care of the Hive (of nurses and nurses aides). That break flushed 3 seasons-worth of outdoor activities down the jon, but I finally caught up on a whole bunch of touchstone over-long TV shows that one needs some working knowledge of in order to talk to the average american. Moral of the story is, don't wear the skates anywhere but a skating surface. Even the parking lot is too much, imo. People say "oh, did you do that skating?" I say "No--I did it trying to hike in roller skates".

1st time roller skating was 2 days ago (I used to use roller blades 20yrs ago and remember not being afraid of falling). Now I’m so afraid of falling that I didn’t even try to make the actual fall less hard and fell TWICE on my butt. I had no idea about those padded shorts! And here my boyfriend and mother making fun of me of how I should wear a pillow around my butt lol Thank you so much for this video! Now I don’t feel as dumb as I did yesterday when I tried to skate again and I felt anxiety crawling over my mind and chest. Now that I’ve read many of the comments as well, it’s good to know it’s more common than I thought.

omg, the tailbone. i once slipped coming down stairs (outside) and i landed right on the corner of the step on my tailbone. you're right, i was walking around very gingerly for 3+ weeks, making small moaning sounds every 5 seconds. it was the most painful experience ever and for that reason, my body instinctively seems to avoid landing near there when i fall when i'm skating. thanks for discussing this!

I went skating with my kid’s and it was awesome! The only thing is I haven’t been skating in over 20 yrs and I was having so much fun before I knew it 2 hour’s had passed by and I lost my balance and my feet slipped out from under me and I fell backwards ,but after that I wasn’t scared of falling 😂 ! Guess I should of took a break!

Tailbone and wrists most common skating injuries. Fractured my tailbone 37 years ago at 18, had to learn how to walk again, and yes I did it skating. Have fallen on it twice again since I started skating again at 55, urgh, its such an inconveinience, all I want to do is skate, lol.

I love this video Dirty! I went for a little ride today on my skates with the outdoor wheels on which went very well but it was a little weird because I kept on feeling a vibrating sensation on the bottom of my feet that is why it felt weird but it was fun though. I did trip a couple times but didn't fall. I'm ready to do the outdoor skating again. lol

Jup! ...and we all fall down... Lol! Wrist guards and padded shorts are life savers! I wear knee pads too... But I do not own a helmet... Can't afford one after ordering the new Lollies either... But soon there will be no more out door skating here... And I'll be left to my tiny livingroom floor again - since we do not have one single roller rink in this country! Not a single one!!! Yeah - yeah! You have heard me going on about this before - you will probably hear it again... Anyhow: Love and light from Norway! PS: Love your little helmet setup there! lol

When I first got my new skates, I went outdoors with my boyfriend, he was behind me and following me around with his skateboard making sure I didn't fall a lot hahah when I started to go a little fast, I fell backwards, my back and butt went against the ground but my head smacked the floor, I swear I don't know how I didn't got a concussion, it was scary but nothing happened to me and we just laughed, wear your protective gear guys, better to prevent than to be sorry

Got back into skating last year after 20+ years of not skating. First time at the rink in my new inlines i sprained the ever loving crap out of my ankle. 3 months later i was back in my boots. A year later and now that its cool we're skating again. Wrist guards are a must all the time, and i have a helmet for off rink skating

I want so much that butt protection before I restart skating, but all I see for sale in my country look like questionable quality 😭 My two greatest stories from when I skated as a kid are the time I fell face on the ground in the rink and the time I tripped in a couple of stones (one for each foot in sequence) on the street and managed NOT to fall forward 😁
