I've really only done two mini roadtrips in my Model 3 LR but I really enjoyed both. It's fun to see how many miles you can go in your car and how long (timewise) and I find going to new superchargers exciting. It's fun to see how long you have to charge to move on to the next one too and the time flies by and I usually overcharge because I get caught up in the rest stops with my wife and kids doing stuff (usually just the bathroom breaks eat up the time and then getting drinks and snacks means I charge longer than I need to). I love Tesla roadtripping.

A few months ago me and my fam went from South Miami to Orlando in a 2016 Model X with AP1. It’s honestly astonishing how good such an old system is. (didn’t realize AP1 moves over when passing trucks on the highway, was a great surprise) From Miami to Orlando and back, 0 TAKEOVERS! Just incredible! I started to feel extremely tired and like I was going to fall asleep around 4am, so I stopped for a quick break. Was deciding if I should sleep for a few hours but remembered I have autopilot. After engaging autopilot, I felt like a passenger just watching the car and after a 5 hour drive barely felt tired at all. Was sold on autopilot after this. My only complaints - one of the falcon doors kept malfunctioning and hit one of my passengers on the head. Also there was a lot of road/wind noise, more any other car I’ve been in. And I’ve driven over 8 Tesla’s in the past including a 2016 Model X. Other than that, it was great!

Compared to previous years like you said, I-95 is full of 250kw superchargers these days, many stalls available and yes... Buc-ee's is insane (that's a beaver btw). I will say the Lima one isn't as bed as you stated here, while it is at a Hotel and there aren't many stations. There are several restaurants just across the street. You can also go into the hotel and use the restroom in there.

I know you pack a lot of stuff but have you considered getting a something like a folding lawn cart? I have one I can unfold and pack stuff from my Model Y I take on road trips. It helps me to avoid carrying a lot of stuff, especially when staying at a hotel. For the autopilot, make sure you cameras and sensors are clean and maybe consider doing a camera recalibration. I don't know that it will help or solve the issue but surly it won't hurt to try.

Chris mentions that stoping to charge with 40% is "not optimal." IMO, trying to optimize charging for the car is only appropriate if you are trying to set some sort of record time and traveling without family. For a family trip like this, I perfer to optimize stops for our human needs, not the car. Just stop at superchargers when you need a break, plug the car in, and unplug when you are ready to leave. Before leaving, I do check what the car estimates the SOC to be at my next stop, but it almost always is plenty.

It’s crazy to think to have been subscribed when “Big Baby 1” was introduced on the channel. Nothing but health and prosperity. Have you done a total cost of both vehicles for a year. Any maintenance including cleaning. What charging would cost with your current Solar setup and without (typical home), Use your states $ per Kw/hr to get a number.? Any battery degradation since point of purchase that you’ve seen (real life what you’ve experienced)

Well thanks for sticking around so long :) I do have some videos reviewing the Y and X (Y kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpS8h4Ckgp2pbqs and X kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXbWnn5_g8drasU) and am currently working on my Model X one year review. I do include costs in those videos to an extent. Let me know if you'd like more detailed information. Since you asked and have been around so long, I will go further into it. I actually would love to produce more of those types of videos. But they take a lot more time, and they don't get nearly as many views as FSD Beta videos, so driving videos take priority for now. But, more non-FSD videos will come over time. Thanks again for all your support over the years.

I wanted to setup a cleaning and care company for charging stations. Like a 3rd party cleaning service for companies that had chargers or even the DC chargers. Keep spaces clean as well. The whole 9 yards. I would like to get charging stations a bit more "outfitted" than they are now. Sounds like Michigan is ahead of me already. Haha! I also looked into designing and building my own charging company to start and get chargers. It's so obvious from the other charging companies that Tesla is 25+ years ahead on price. It's not even a comparison. One of them wanted $400k for just a single charger stall. No installation, nothing else with the hardware. Just the hardware. Tesla will own the world in 15 years. Great video! Looks like your family had a great time and Tesla made it happen!

If it makes you feel any better, for me to drive to Edmonton, Alberta its 935km and there is only 3 superchargers on the route. Two of them are 440km apart after an hour drive so I have to charge for 40 mins to get to full then drive 5 hours to near empty and charge again. Not optimal either but soon Telsa will FINALLY put in a couple more supercharging stations along the route and cut down on charging time by about 30 mins.

Had a hair raising battery management experience traveling east on I-70 to charge at Idaho Springs, CO. Car said we'd get to charger with 15% battery. But there is an 11,158 ft high pass about 35 miles west of Idaho Springs. The battery was at 12% as we went over the pass. I was a little worried. But, the downhill to Idaho Springs allowed the batter to charge back up to 15% during the last 30 miles of the leg. Whew.

Thanks so much for show how you loaded the car and where stuff went! My thought is that there must be some logic to it and I’d like to see others’ logic….I did not know about the 12V socket in the rear right side in MX. It’s not in the manual and would have taken me years to discover on my own. Name of motel w charger in Tifton? I used to spend a lot of time there 40 yrs ago and will be headed that way to Florida next year. Also, it looks like I need to add a long screwdriver to my stash in car to clean mud and dirt out of wheels. I drive a lot of dirt roads. Only had MX for 7 months and love it. Sooo smoooth! I have a request that I'm really curious about with FSD. On I-40 in North Carolina near Mount Sterling there's a strip of road that gets some big turns, and traffic usually flows around 70mph (anyone going less hasn't driven it before haha) but it is a relatively dangerous strip of the highway. I would really love to see how FSD handles the area, especially with Semi's, construction zones and backups happening fairly often. Side note, this place often gets referenced as "entering the gorge"

Thank you for taking the time out of your personal vacation to share this video! Just a few questions: I have a Tesla model y 2023 and bought a subscription-based FSD; the beta option to request is not there! Just a toggle now and greyed out, saw a few things on the recalls, which may have affected it but, just wanted to ask you because you're the Tesla expert.

Your software version is probably 2023, and beta is still 2022. The cars can't go backwards, so once beta gets past your version, you'll be able to enroll! When? No one knows :S

The benefit of the Lima Ohio supercharger is that it's free :) The only one I know of that's free, the hotel pays for it all. (I'm not sure if that's still the case today but it was for years)

I thought Lima was NOT free now. But speaking of hotel chargers ("destination?") - they are great! You can charge while you sleep (like at home) and be ready to go in the morning. Not sure if you mentioned this....

They are building a new Bucky's next to my home. When I checked the plans submitted to the city they have spots for electric car charging. I hope to have a supercharger next to my home soon.

What is that arm for the charging cable? My cable is in the way for the guy collecting our garbage, so would be nice to be able to keep the ground clear. And how on earth can you skip the part where the pancake is done, I was waiting for the outcome, I have never seen such machine before. We should have a website for all Tesla Owners, with a rating system for every supercharger. It should include rating of food, bathrooms, if there are garbage cans, crowded, anything worth spending time on while supercharging and all sorts of useful tips.

Great trip! I have one question. According to the charging data in the video, Full Model X Battery is only 88kwh. Should it be 95~100? What happened?
@DirtyTesla
@DirtyTesla Жыл бұрын
They did shrink the battery a bit from 100kWh on the refresh, and some is held in reserve.

I noticed you had the rear view camera going. Probably because you have so much stuff in the car that you can't use your actual review mirror. Someone should just suggest to Tesla to make a camera view just for that purpose. I would imagine a long rectangular camera view up top with the map underneath would be perfect. Because that way you can still view the map. Personally it would drive me nuts to not see the map all the time it would be great to have that rear view.

I test drove 2 different 2023 Model X's today and noticed front suspension issues on both. Vibration and shaking coming from the steering wheel, and some noises from the front end. Seems odd for 2 "new" vehicles to have the same suspension issue. Have you experienced this?

I noticed what looked like Enhanced Auto Pilot in this video. Did you recently add that to your X? At $6k, do you think it's worth it? I have a Y with standard autopilot only, and honestly am considering EAP for the lane change feature alone. Having to re-engage autopilot after every lane change on the highway is probably my biggest (and only) gripe about my Y. Thanks for the great videos!

We subscribed to FSD for one month to use it for this road trip. The goal was to have FSD Beta, but it was not available to our X in time (and still isn't actually...). The features included even of EAP are very nice. I'm not sure it's *exactly* worth $200, but we enjoyed having it for thousands of miles and used it 95%+ of the time!

ANY help or advice on what you did would be great thank you.
