As a person with aphasia and apraxia I can say it is a bit like feeling trapped. The world passes you by without a comment. It is lonely because you want to make a deep connection and it's almost impossible. People forget to ask you for your opinion. They forget you have one. It's not out of meanness. Emily i am also disabled and struggle alot with loneliness. Watching people do all the "normal adult things" is really hard. @@mikeguidry2577 I'm sorry you feel alone and I hope you find whatever way loneliness means for you to find since loneliness can't be "cured" from something external. So many of the popular people are just as lonely but distracts from it with the people surrounding them. Loneliness really has nothing to do with what's happening outside of you, it's inside of you. I've found that helping people, either secretly or direct, feels like balm on a lonely heart. To ease someone elses pain in some way. Take care because you are very valuable 💙

I can see the feelings of loneliness on her face. I have a lot of mental health conditions I receive government assistance for. I recognize that expression because of my own reflection in the mirror, and it hurts to see on another person. Compassion and patience go a long way, no matter who you're interacting with. 0:29 gotta appreciate that you asked Emily whether to trim the time she takes to answer or leave it in the final video. Overall it's really great that people in your videos are, well, people and not a mere *subject of the interview. It sucks to see how others happen to infantilize disabled people. Your videos are a breath of fresh air. Keep up the awesome work.

@@mel3256 is that why there's a link to interact with her on Instagram? There is a much broader world to be accessed with online tools. Even for able-bodied people, face to face interactions are dwindling. People don't have or don't make time for meetups anymore. Here in Atlanta, GA, with traffic and everyone living potentially 30-40 miles away, it's just too taxing with everything else going on in life.

I feel non-disabled people are on the same boat in regards to being childless at 30+, 30 is the new 20 for many, and they live with their parents too. Though they do focus on careers, but many haven't even worked that out yet either.

It's a real shame that most people aren't very thoughtful and caring when dealing with a disabled person. She seems like such a sweet and kind person and has definitely matured a lot by living with this kind of handicap. The amount of strength she has to have on a daily basis to still be able to smile like that must be tremendous. I have so much respect and admiration for Emily and I just wish for her to find a group of people who are kind and patient enough to listen what she has to say and give her a feeling of belonging.

I wish she was my sister. I don’t have a disability but I am unable to connect with people, I have no children, I understand the feeling of being passed by. While your friends and family move on and you feel left behind. You don’t need to be disabled to experience this. I find comfort in animals, especially dogs. They love unconditionally, they don’t need to speak to communicate and are more loving and less judgmental than any human being I have ever met. What a beautiful person with a loving soul. It’s not a disability but a gift.❤

I feel like I can understand her a little bit because of having autism and having selective mutism. When she said she has whole conversations in her head but does nothing but smile, that sounded really familiar to me and I'm glad that she has a method to say how she feels and what she wants but it's true - people are TOO quick in conversations and don't want to wait five seconds for someone who might communicate at a slower pace than that. She actually seems like a very insightful, funny person - people are massively missing out if they don't wait for her to talk because she says a lot of wise things like when she was talking about nature having its own song, that's really beautiful.

Just watching Emily communicate, you can tell she is so intelligent. I also noticed once you realized that she was able to cognitively understand what you were saying that you just spoke to her as if she had no issues understanding. I've met quite a few people over the years who are like Emily, and who have had to deal with others treating them as if they aren't able to understand what is being said. Her stating that she feels like she could explode is heartbreaking. I hope soon there will be a way for people like Emily to communicate freely and quickly.

The fact that she is so articulate, observant and intelligent makes it more sad that she cannot freely communicate due to her disability. When she communicated all that goes on in her mind and the things she could say in a live conversation... and then concludes that in the end she can only sit there and smile. That really made me realize how frustrated she must sometimes be. Imagine being the most insightful person in the room but literally not having a voice. I am so impressed by her and hope she finds people with the patience to get to know her. She seems someone worth getting to know.
