As a HUGE fan of Greek mythology, I must admit that I've never heard of Labda before. Thanks for sharing.

The speaker obviously suffered from tremendous anxiety delivering the paper--which is something I got over when lecturing to students, but was never able to overcome when delivering papers, but she should be aware that prospective employers and tenure committees will be watching for that sort of thing. She should also have mentioned the primary sources for this obscure myth--I'm sure they're in her notes but it would have been nice to be informed about them. Also, she never finished the narrative. I am aware that is standard practice--to simply assume the audience knows the story--but its not one I necessarily agree with.

I think she did finish the narrative (with the son surviving and growing up to become Corinth's first tyrant) but yeah, there was a very long aside before she got to the conclusion that would've been more effective after telling the end of the story.

The image of the Komast Dancer reminds me of someone with a clubfoot. Very interesting topic!

This was very decent but felt like it lacked details and no where near tied together at the end narration. I felt like it was part presentation of Disability in the ancient world, and part story of this incredible individual, however I really didn't get a good idea of What the Narrative was let alone any closure on the presentation. She did seem a bit nervous at times and thankfully She truly was passionate about the story. But I still enjoyed it well done.

Interesting video. But why are so many KZbin channels getting spammed with pron bots all of a sudden? Even here. I just reported another. {:-:-:}

Very interesting! Perhaps I'm more cynical, but Labda's story could easily be a made up family history to somewhat justify a tyrant's right to rule: "I'm not a no-name country bumpkin who took over the place by force-- I'm a member of the ruling family that was raised in the countryside! Why was I raised in the countryside? Why, because my mother is from the ruling family and my father from the countryside! How can that be when members of my family only marry each other...? Wait, really? Um... because my mother was outcast and had to marry below her station due to... something that isn't a moral failing... like a leg injury! Yes, she had a leg injury like mine! No, of course she didn't injure her leg in battle as I did-- she was lame from birth and so was outcast from her family which is why she married my father the farmer, but really and truly I'm a member of this ruling family and all the men of my mother's family found me charming from birth and all of them would tell you the same story I have here if they weren't all dead...!"
