@@ghostlyrich Great, I'm in the same train! Hope to see your video before I do mine. There's not much info on LT1. No books, no videos. Just the service manual

Never break head bolts wirh an impact gun. Always break by hand first, then finish zipping out with impact. You can destroy the threads doing this.

why bother with a engine stand if your doing everything on the wood? head bolts are to be removed in a specific order not just across the bottom then the inside. this keeps the head from warping. same pattern as when you torque them down. also theres proper valve spring tool made for the lt motor.

Built the stand mainly for reassembly thought it would be handy to rotate for disassembly but it wasnt. Heads were fine and fully inspected and cleaned up at machine shop, all good.

@ghostlyrich I'm a mechanic for a living . The correct head bolt sequence to loosen head bolts is the exact opposite of the tightening sequence. Like will you warp a head ? Possibly , probably not but it's just a risk I don't wanna take 👀.

@writeupking i havent warped one yet but as you said doesnt mean it isnt possible so i appreciate the advice

This is the same engine in my 17' SS Camaro 6spd. I have 68k miles on mine now and have using mostly Mobil 1 oil. What type of oil were you using? Does that grove in the lifter seem normal?

Whats your view on this engine regarding durability and hold up to running it hard but also while keeping clean oil in it. How many miles can be expected from it?

I'm a c7 lt1 vette owner . They are chill under N/A power levels . They do have paper mache glass pistons that hate moderate boost . Until you replace at minimum the pistons you don't want to exceed 600 wheel horse power . I just picked up a A&A supercharger so hoping running around at 600 or a little under doesn't shatter my ring lands and force me to replace or build engine 💀. Currently making 482 wheel on e85 , long tune headers , and ported intake . This N/A power level is safe .

hey, quick question, i got a 2016 corvette stingray, and im planning to replace the lifters, the parts i bought were 8 ROLLER lifters, and 8 AFM lifters, do you know where does the AFM lifters goes? or is it all 16 roller lifters
@ghostlyrich
@ghostlyrich Жыл бұрын
Are you going to delete the cylinder deactivation?? Allot of people when then the lifters fail will end up doing a cam swap to get a bit more hp and delete the afm (cylinder deactivation) if your planning on keeping it i would inspect your old lifters for ware and if you see any, definitely take the time to inspect the cam through the valley tray to make sure the lobes aren’t worn out. The AFM lifters have a small little bead like point on the side of the lifter which is so it will collapse in cylinder deactivation mode so when you pull out the old lifters, just match the buckets up with the corresponding lifters and slide them back into the same holes as you swap them if not, go by where the Solinoids would sit. I will be deleting the AFM lifters and going with an upgraded cam and deleting the solenoids as AFM can cause a lot of issues, including lifter failure and torque converter, torque tube, and transmission damage

Where is the cam located in the engine? Time stamp if you have it on this video. Also, tbh I already bought the AFM 8x lifters, and 8 OEM lifters, if I just do all 16 roller lifters (no Afm) will I need to replace anything else?
@ghostlyrich
@ghostlyrich Жыл бұрын
@@fixnplug2645 yes you would want to get a afm delete kit. I will have a video up this weekend of reassembling this motor, to do lifter is a big job, what has you doing the lifter? Cam shaft sits right under the lighters in the center of the block
