Disassembling A Cerwin Vega D-9 Woofer

I finally tare down my 152WR Cerwin Vega D-9 woofer to see what went wrong. This is a perfect example of why the voice coil needs to be centered properly when replacing foam surrounds.

Im beginning to realize im in over my head with ideas of refoaming my late brothers CV's. There is a local shop that sells the old vinyl...planning on going in there and pick his brain to see how much vintage knowledge he has, if any, on the CV's and older pioneer system ive inherited. Will continue to watch your older stuff as i continue this journey of hoping to hear my brothers speakers "sing" again.

Re-foaming is actually quite simple, it does take a steady hand and some patience but nothing to complicated really. If you order a re-foam kit most come with the proper glue and new dustcaps. I always recommend to those who are doing it for the first time to use the glue that comes with the kit on some scrap items just to get a feel of how the glue reacts and sets. If you're not confident that you're able to do it, there's nothing wrong with having a professional re-foam them for you. It is very rewarding to hear the speakers you fixed but in the end you have to be happy with the results.

@@SavingVegas Thank you for the encouragement. I'll order the kits, as I'll do both and check the other parts to make sure their in working order also. I want them to sound the way their supposed to. My brothers favorite song was Green grass and High tides by the Outlaws. Ten minutes of pure musical enjoyment. Cranked to the right levels, will be my first song to honor my brothers memory.

re foam is very easy if you take your time. plenty of yt videos for referance. I recommend brew city LLC for parts. he will also help you with any questions you might have

Its unfortunate you lost the original Cone/Voice coil. Looking forward to the rebuild,

I did try to remove the voice coil without damaging the cone but no luck so re-cone kit is on order.

I have yet to do a re cone. Ive done plenty of re foams but never this. Im kinda anxious to do one, but then again i hope i dont blow any of my woofers out. Good video!

does a RE CONE kit have sound quality?...how close do they get to the factory sounding speakers??...nice channel you have here...i have 2 d-9's myself...awesome speakers....keep up the good work
