Phenomenal atmosphere, phenomenal performance, lacked the killer edge to finish them. Madrid had the gods on their side and find a way to win. I also noticed some Madrid fans in city end with their half”s and half’s and non city shirts which is massively frustrating and an absolute NO NO. People like IOSPEED should not be allowed near the club again , period. We will respond I am sure , let’s go for the double , FOREVER PROUD.

Don't think anything is vastly different. He has missed a fair few sitters and if you add those to his goal tally it's looking extremely healthy and I don't know how any striker can do well with teams sitting this deep with 1/2 defenders man marking the whole game. We are used to them deep but I feel like teams, especially big teams are sitting in their own box for the whole 90 this season

Think a lot of blues have been waiting for this steve, cathartic! Good summary of the match, which was pretty much our season in a microcosm. For me we started slow and let them get on the ball a bit and they got the goal it gave them something to defend. After that it was basically one way traffic against a flat back 10. We just didn't take or chances. They were absolutely terrified of us and they were dead on their feet. It's cup football though and it comes down to these fine margins. You have real madrid clinging on for pens. We needed to be smarter at their place maybe. Couple of points for me. Atmosphere was good last night, although was a bit disappointed with the tifo personally. Bellingham was bossed all night by rodri and akanji. Over hyped player imo. Ref was polar opposite to the week before, allowed them to get away with rolling around and killing time. Carvajal took 4 mins to come off and there was 1 min added on second half ET. Plus he was giving goal kicks for corners and seemed in the way a lot. Heard a few Real fans in the home end kicked out. I could have sold my ticket for £500 to an american Real fan. Bernardo only knows why he did that on his pen. Also the guy who kept the ball in the crowd before bernardos pen! Wtf! Why do that, changed the momentum! Finally Haaland is a conundrum at the moment. He gets little service but i also think his hold up play and aerial play needs to improve. On to wembley. Come on blues lets win the league. CTID. The league is the one i want but cant say I'm not gutted about last night.

I think you are spot on about Haaland I don’t know what it is exactly but they just don’t seem to look for him much anymore the only one that does with anything near regularity is KDB he just looks a very frustrated individual this was actually my concern for him when he first arrived would the team be able to to adapt to get the best out of him ? Look if you create chances for him he will score goals he’s proven that . He’s barely had a sniff in recent times and I think that’s probably why when he’s had chances of late he’s tended to snatch at them, he used to get multiple chances per match now he’s lucky if he gets one .

Feeling a bit down and frustrated, but not upset. That because our boys gave it their all, just didnt have the cutting edge to put them away. Madrid's gameplan was clear as day. Nick a goal, then shithouse it with 10 men in the box and it worked. And this is an issue we will keep seeing, teams parking the bus, and putting low blocks all game, hitting on the counter with pace. Pep needs to sort it out, and find ways to kill teams off. But ultimately, im proud of the boys, the run theyve been on last 18months, and were there to do it again, takes a lot of commitment and work to be at the top of every competition like this. We will be there again next season. Focus now on the double, gotta put Chelsea away, cant let them hang around or fuck about. Palmer's in brilliant form and he would want nothing more than proving Pep wrong for not giving him a full chance. Up the blues, Cmon City!

I just dont think haaland has looked right since his injury, his body language is deffo different. We arent playing to his strengths and we should be. The last thing we want is haaland going madrid with mbappe and endrick on the horizon. Pep adapted the system for him last season and look what happened, this season hes gone back to the false 9 style play and we arent benefiting from it.

I agree we are mot playing to Haaland's strengths - no balls coming into the box at height or pace for Erling to get onto. Lots of possession but short on the finish. But, still a good performance from the team and lost to play for - lets get behind City at Wembley to get us into another final.

@IscoMadrid-fd7fy
@IscoMadrid-fd7fy 2 ай бұрын
You actually dominated only when it came to ball posession. Madrid overall dominated City when it came to attacking and defending. No main GK, two main CB with ACL injury, no defensive midfielder and no starting striker yet guys over 30 like Carvajal, Nacho and Rüdiger were the ones keeping Grealish, Foden, Silva and Haaland silent for almost the entire game. City generated an embarassing 2.7 xG in 33 shots over 120 minutes. RM forced City wide all game and City despite passing the ball a thousand times, did not know how to penetrate into the box. Doku was the only one who truly made the difference and created clear cut chances that were not solely influenced by mistakes from defenders. Even Henry said that City barely had clear cut chances. They were mostly generated from small mistakes by Madrid. I remember Man City parking the bus against Atleti after being up a goal and no one complained. Man City scored the same amount of goals as Real Madrid over both legs. Madrid put up a 90s Italian defensive masterclass. They won the pen shootout because of Rüdiger, Kepa and Lunin, they won on a tactical level. Madrid dominated both legs by scoring early and taking the lead or scoring quick after Man City scored. Man City never led in the tie for more than 10 minutes, over 2 matches. They were constantly chasing the score whilst Madrid when scoring were able to defend their lead for way longer. Madrid were actually better offensively for scoring goals with less chances and defensively for not allowing to be scored against despite City's posession. Having the ball most of the time and playing like clowns with 33 shots resulting in 1 goal sounds worse than old school Italian defending. The only one I truly respect, is suprisingly Doku. He wasn't tapdancing then passing the ball back unlike Grealish but actually risked losing the ball by creating bigger chances.

Last season rivals were calling haaland tap in merchant n the defense we had against that was to get those tap ins a player has to be in the right places, the positional awareness has to be to level so that's why he gets those goals. But this season he's not been able to be in those spaces. But the team also hasn't looked to find him as much. So it has been a bit off. It's such a shame if he's only on there to just pull defenders away 🤦

Excellent analysis as usual Steve. This season was always going to be difficult after the success we had during the last few years. It was going to be a reset year and even with that City had been in the fight. City didnt hav a good transfer window. Didn't replace Gundo properly. City seriously shd have signed a good DM. Rodri has been carrying a huge work load & a good number 2 would have made a massive difference. Like you correctly said defense this year has been an issue. I felt this year winning 3 trophies was going to be a big challenge & either the fa cup or champions league wd have needed to be sacrificed considering the defense & poor finishing. Winning the premier league for the 4th time in a row would be a major achievement imo. Probably continuing in the champions league would have cost us the premier league. City need a good backup goal keeper. I thought going to penalties city wouldn't stand a chance with ederson. He is really poor in penalties. When city used to have Willy,Joe or even Bravo they were good when it came to penalties. Haaland is still young as time goes by he will improve. With KDB getting older City needs a good creative player like Wirtz & a player like that could be a great link for Haaland. You cant always win and I'm sure next season City would be much better as long they bring proper reinforcements.

That is the most aggressive I’ve seen the boys play for a while, fighting for everything, closing them down early and suffocating them. Like you said mate it all comes to nothing if you can’t change the scoreline. There’s no denying that Big Erl has missed quite a few chances in front of goal this season that he would have buried last year, even as aerial threat his accuracy is out of tune from what we know he can produce. I’d love to see him on the mad runs he was known for at Dortmund, but now he barely uses them big legs, just hanging around the 6 yard box like a lamp post, hopefully Pep squares that away soon with a few tweaks, he needs to link up with Doku and Grealish better because their end product needs work as well, hold up play only gets you so far. Great vid Steve, expressing a lot of the thoughts we’re thinking. Someone should have knocked that little speed b*stard out, annoying as fk

Look Haaland is not in the same league as Aguero. We have to give him more service and try to play him in, but how that going to happen ?when we're passing side to side, after letting their defence get back into shape, Let's get the ball forward quicker and play to his strengths.
@Lord--Farquaad

@@James-tz8qe I do. I think we're incredibly lucky to be top of the Prem. I think with our defending this season we were destined to get dumped out of the CL sooner or later. I don't think the players exhibit the same hunger, desire and passion that they did last season. And I think we as fans deserve to see players that genuinely love playing for the club and are ready to give their all whenever they put the shirt on. The mood around the camp this whole season has been that of complacency and satisfaction, and we shouldn't take that lightly.

@@Lord--Farquaad that's very harsh, I was at the game the other night and those players couldn't have tried harder or run further. We've not quite been as good this season but I think it was inevitable that there would be some kind of drop off after pushing their bodies to the absolute limit in all competitions plus a world cup last season, they're not machines. Nothing to do with lacking passion or not caring. Look at how far Liverpool fell off after almost winning all trophies compared to us who are still competing for everything.

I’m gutted but going out to Real Madrid on penalty’s feels a lot easier to handle and come to terms with than losing to a deflected last minute goal or a loss to a Premier league rival in the champions league. I’m proud that City gave it there all and tried to win the game unlike the Bottle job London Reds did last night against Bayern. 😂. I do worry for Chelsea on Saturday though as we will have a lot of physically and mentally tired players after an hour and half’s football last night.

I dont think the Haaland situation is as deep as you think. The season started with our most creative attacker injured with half the season out, Haaland has been out for 2 months its simply just rhythm they dont have the rhythm and we have too many games played this season. Just let them rest and start the next season well rested and you will see the Haaland we need.

Steve…bang on about a few things. First off, people like Speed should’ve been chucked out…immediately. It’s bad enough we have the emptihad reputation, this just makes it worse, and worse for supporters like us who live day in day out with the constant abuse from mates and on social media. We don’t have million pound homes to go home to…this club is everything to us, and it hurts. Haaland. The fact that he asked to come off after 90 is not a good sign. BUT, if you think about it, we’ve lost Gundo. KDB has obviously lost a step (possibly psychological from that hamstring injury being so bad) and so has Bernardo (who already is slow). We’ve replaced Mahrez with Doku which to me is an even swap, and that’s it. Our attacking threat from midfield and our incisive passers in midfield has tremendously diminished from past year, as has our ability to win second balls in the box in open play (Gundo was great at that, and so was KDB but since he’s clearly slowed down, not so much). I think if you look at who we’re being linked to this summer you’ll see the staff recognize that. Musiala, Paqueta, Olise…all incisive attacking players. I’m sure behind closed doors those discussions with EH have already happened, esp since discussions about renewing his contract started. One thing to do now, win the double. Beat Chelsea on Saturday and then win out to win four in a row. Cmon Citeh!

just like England , we seem to treat penalties like a do what you want episode ......everyone of their players (apart from modric ) were adamant they were gonna score .Ancellotti says : `we were happy to play for penalties ` we knew we could win them . i knew from before the game it was gonna be penalties ......then its anyones 33 attempts 18 corners !!!! 1 goal .... that has got to be unnacceptable ...Time for a refreshed team for Saturday

Going to have to disagree with your point in Doku. The attack was anemic at best and non-existant at worst before he came on. The goal and the fizzed 7 yarder by KDB were both directly related to him creating.

Hello Steve last season we won the ucl coz Pep said he would not overthink thats why we won it but this one we fell to the hands of real madrid coz we were playing the way they wanted us to play by passing the ball around i was wondering why crosses were not deliverd into the box coz at that time they were tired and under pressure and you never know something could have happened , going into penalties i knew we were out coz we were the better team in the game it looks like Pep never planned to see this game heading into penalties.

Crazy how Doku gets criticism from City fans, despite being lively and effective when he came on; however Grealish does nothing most of the game and gets praised. Doku created that KDB goal with his directness.

Some media said a masterclass..my Ass!!..The team have to play as Pep says.. can't really blame the players..yes we missed chances..last year we demolished them..this yesr they parked a jumbo jet of sorts..In general most teams just park the bus to stop us playing which shows how good we are..
