Disaster coolant leak on my Mazda Bongo!

My van sprang a coolant leak whilst out driving! check out what happened and how I sorted it.

Bongo coolant leaks, 😱 Stuff of nightmares! My partner and me have a diesel Bongo each and we both have coolant alarms. Well done on repairing it 👍

We’ll done getting it sorted in the car park 😀 I’ve got a diesel with the self bleed kit fitted. I’ve got a very old coolant alarm, may start looking at the newer ‘screw less’ ones off eBay, so be interesting to see what you go for - great video as always 👌

Thanks! I was really gutted at not having any tools in the van (that may have come across lol!). I take it the diesel bleed kit does make it as easy as mine was to bleed? I've got my eye on the 'screw less' alarms so keep your eyes peeled on what I go for! Cheers👍

Great save, that could've been very costly! Whatever you do try to avoid the screw in type coolant alarms. On mine whenever the weather is cold it will set the alarm off until the engine warms up. Driving the kids to school at the moment is painful with a screeching alarm going on for half the trip. 😁

@@VantasticIdeas it's a fairly common "fault" with that type I believe. Something to do with the screw oxidising (?). If you clean the screw of its residue you'll get a couple of days peace but, like Arnie, it'll be back. 😁

Oh yes, I'm going to be doing the same. A little bag of tools left where the jack goes. Just my leatherman multi tool would have probably done what I needed. I'll be doing some hose inspection in the coming weeks as well!! cheers 👍

Does that hose you bought fit other areas of the coolen system? If so I bet your tempted to replace them 👍

@@garywhitworth1919 Very tempted! I think they are varying sizes and shapes unfortunately. I'll take a look at bongo spares and see what the cost of doing it is 👍

Thanks 😁 a buyers guide would be useful 🤔 Bodywork is the main concern I would say as they can rust in certain areas such as arches and sills which can lead to a big garage bill if not sorted. Check the underneath and see if it’s been under sealed. Do you know anyone else that owns a bongo? If so take them with you. If you’re not a member of the Mazda bongo owners Facebook group it’s worth joining as there is a lot of good info on there! Cheers 👍

@@bethneal3068 It never hurts to have both! but a low coolant alarm is probably best as it would go off when the tank is empty, so for example if you had a leak overnight it would sound the alarm before you even started the engine.

I repair these for customers - nobody else wants to - they do love to rust. I have almost every part of a Bongo body/chassis off by heart at this stage.
