I have a v6 petrol , no chance of 30mpg , steady 65mph on autoroute saw 24 mpg! Was 4 up fully loaded mind. Engine is smooth and quiet until around 4000 revs , say kickdown up a hill , then i start feeling a bit sorry for it!

my 2.5 is very slow up hills but you cant ever be in a hurry in a bongo 😀

I'd probably look at Honda Stepwagon 2.0 litre petrol. You get closer to 40mpg, very reliable engine and timing chain rather than belt.

ive been looking at diesels mainly as 4x4,,how deos the 2ltr 2wd perform in snow ,your tyre upgrade should help ,my concern was steering wobble at speed meaning alot of parts under stress, have you any feed back on snow tyres on the 2wd i live in the peaks ,love scotland and both places challenging weather ,im not one for speeding around fully loaded 3 ton needs thought to stop ,60 max as a rule ,the 2 ltr is simpler meaning cheaper to fix as less to go wrong ,more revs but easily copes, everyone ive met love the drive of the bongo ,a few vw owners only changed from the bongo ,for more space, but prefer the drive of the bongo, auto box gives more time to concentrate on the road as not faffing with gears, nearly all had their best trips in a bongo mainly being their first camper and always have a good word for the van all say they are thirsty but its a campervan automatic and if diesel 4x4 so a light foot definitely helps ,the bijou footprint makes for more exploration that, big vans just cant do ,i see you were on winnats pass a good test for any motor great informative vid with good points between variants cheers sam

Thanks for this video. The only thing to mention. From my point of view. Based on pot Holes. My Bongo has low profile Tyres and Wheels. Wheel rims are £500 each to replace and tyres £150 each. I would never ever buy a car with low profiles again. Ride comfort is terrible with potholes but road holding exceptional. George 😢

Hi .Nice vid..but unless you like smell of diesel..I'd take the feed out of the top of your plastic tank. Using a small stand pipe.. The set up you have will leak at sometime.(just a Cheap Chinese O ring stopping it from escaping ) Stinking your van out..not good..👍

What is it like refuelling on LPG nowadays, as I heard they’re fading it out. Also how much is an LPG conversion?

When you start to use LPG it consumes approx 20% more volume compared to petrol. So if your car was using 12lt petrol per 100mile it will use 14.4lt LPG. So it will be beneficial when LPG price is 20% below petrol price. But Price ratio between LPG and petrol significantly varies between cities in the UK. Warrington area 2025 Jan Petrol 1.40 LPG 1.00 Per 100 miles Petrol cost 12lt x1.4 = 16.8£ LPG cost 12x1.2x1= 14.4£ Means min 2£ savings in 100miles. Where at the same times In Birmingham area 1lt Petrol is 1.35£ 1lt LPG is 0.8£ So in 100miles Petrol Cost 12lt x 1.35 = 16.2£ But LPG cost 12lt × 1.2 × 0.8 = 11.53 So savings will be 4.5£ per 100miles. More than double. In Birmingham area average cost is 1000£ for adding LPG Means you need 1000÷4.5 = 222 x100 = 22200miles to start saving. But in Warrington area you will start savings after 45000miles.

You know I suppose if you routed the heat output to the other side you could probably tap into the van's existing rear vent system - it goes up that pillar just behind the seat and it comes out in the middle top of the van. That would be pretty trick!

Well done! Thanks for sharing. Canada is a little colder than UK but the diesel heater made a massive difference for us over here, year round camping now. Interesting to see you install it on the drivers side. I installed mine under the passenger seat and it comes out the middle console - found a removable hatch on the back of the hump. Everyone does it a little different - cheers!

Just for info. They will run on kerosene, diesel, paraffin. I run paraffin on mine occasionally as it burns cleaner and helps stop soot build up in combustion chamber. Also room temp sensor is built into display controller. So if you mount it high in van it turns down too quick. Mounted too low heater will never turn down as cold air etc. George

Now the rot and cruds out,get sp50 in through the drain holes in outriggers and sill ends and everywhere else you know is solid,the next place to go will be the rear end of the sills and rear lower arches(if rear arches are still original).Sp50 isnt cheap but it works.

Your bongo is so lovely, I'm sure you have even more reason it to love it than my own - I had the same, welding to do, I was always scared of welding, thinking it would cost me a forrtune. Thankfully whilst it wasnt cheap, it was great to get it done. I am really impressed you could do this yourself - must of saved so much money (25 quid for parts !!!) !! Did you learn to weld yourself or is it your main job (you state your note a professional, but it looks brilliant !!) ? What would you recommend to learn how to weld ? I had my sills done professiionally, but i would love to do it myself in the future ! Fantastic video - thank you and so glad your bongo is still on the road ! Could you make some videos on welding ?
