Hi! I’ve read in the comments that your Bongo is the 2.0 petrol version. I just wanted to ask if you feel it’s a good volume for this car? Is there any situation when you feel it suffers from a lack of power, or is it just alright all-around if you don’t need to break acceleration records? I’ve been deciding between 2.0 and 2.5 liter petrol tin-top, and from what I’ve read the 2-liter 4-cylinder is less thirsty and one of Mazda’s very reliable, tried-and-tested engines. I was inclined to get that one, but was just wondering, whether the 2 extra cylinders and higher power (but also consumption) is maybe worth it?

Great video. Quick question about the solar. Did you have to drill holes in the roof for the cables and gubbins or did they squeeze through the rubber seals? Cheers
@VantasticIdeasКүн бұрын
I literally just passed it under the rubber seal. If you watch my video about the solar panel respray I’m sure I show how the wires are routed into the van. Bear in mind my roof is the after market roof and not the factory AFT style. Cheers 👍

@VantasticIdeas thanks so much. Do you sell your small kitchen unit? Or a plan for it. I love the one with the pull out cooker drawer and tambour door.

My Bongo is 220kms in now & with only one recorded cambelt change in it's lifetime, it needs doing but quotes I've had are around £700 often supplemented with a friendly " yea mate, it's not easy to change on a Bongo" Thanks (I think) for reminding me to get on with it.

Mine is a 2ltr so the prices do vary across the different types. If you live anywhere near bongo spares they are worth considering. Hope you get it sorted soon, cheers 👍

@davejones60536 күн бұрын
Deffo worth doing the cambelt. We learnt the hard way and ended up stranded and brought home on a flatbed. Forgot about it, and it snapped pretty much precisely at 5 years. Luckily we have 2.0 petrol which is non interference engine so no damage. Think diesel engines fair much worse.
@VantasticIdeas6 күн бұрын
That was my worst fear (the flatbed of shame has yet to visit me), thankfully sorted now! yes having the 2.0 ltr does make it slightly less daunting. Cheers 👍

I remember in one video you were going to look at finding a solution to help make the automatic blinds darker on the Bongo, did you get anywhere with it or have I missed a video somewhere? Would be great to find a solution to having a bit of a lay in bed on summer mornings when away in the Bongo 😴😴😴...

Enjoyed the video, as usual very useful. Not sure if you can help me, I've got a 1994 2Lt r Friendee. For a couple of months now the "low coolant" warning light and buzzer is on ,all the time. Coolant level is full, no leaks visable. Do you think I have a faulty sensor, do is need a new coolant container or an I missing something really obvious. Thanks
@VantasticIdeas29 күн бұрын
Do you have the coolant alarm that has the ‘screws in the tank’ type? If so I’ve heard that removing and cleaning the screws can stop this. But it also could be a faulty alarm sensor.

Depends on your layout, with mine I can use the kitchen unit to lower myself up/down. I've seen some people use small ladders (like bunk bed ladders maybe?). There's definitely an amount of flexibility needed to use the roof space!!

I'm curious as to the bed setup in a rear conversation. We have a Bongo with a side conversion at the moment, it's very cosy! Perhaps a rear conversation like this one would give more bed space for 2 humans and a whippet...

Hi matey. I need your help. When dark . With headlights on can you do a video so I can see your dashboard illumination. But also lights on in daytime. For example on a rainy day. I switched my lights on . But no indication on dashboard or instruments panel that they are on. So the only way I know they are on is to get out the vehicle and have a look. George

@MakeDoAndMend12 ай бұрын
@@VantasticIdeas Many thanks. Its the first vehicle I have owned with such a silly problem. I just Don't want to have the dashboard instrument cluster out and have to check every bulb. If I know roughly where it is if it has one then I can just change the faulty bulbs. Cheers from old George.

Hi There, Great Video..... I've been wrestling with trying to get brackets for a Fiamma F45S 2.6M Awning to fit my Bongo - with aftermarket pop top which sits in the gutter as yours does.. Their own brackets (which are bolt onto the gutter T3 / Bongo type) do not fit the bill as they easily block the path of the aftermarket top's path when it comes down to sit in the gutter. The Fiamma awning has a slot running all the way along its length at the top back, which needs to be used for any brackets to slot up into, so the thickness of any bracket would need to take into account the thickness of the slot.. my question is can/could you provide your brackets to fit the Fiamma F45S Awning, taking into account they need their top to fit into the slot ... Any information wod be greatly appreciated...

I love the Bongo, but I would also consider other vans as well that are more modern and need less maintenance. Having said that if you can find a good Bongo in good condition then they are a lot of fun. As ever it always boils down to budget. I think Bongo prices are currently quite high compared to what they used to be. If you've not been to a Bongo meet up then have a look on facebook at the groups as they often do meet ups where owners are more than willing to show you their vans to give you a good idea of space. Cheers 👍

Help! My Bongo doesn’t want to start. It is the 6 cylinder. It was fine one night and resisting starting the following morn. It made a bit of a whining sound. When I finally got it started it immediately died. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Perhaps it is shameless of me to post this here but I don’t know where to turn. I may be the only person in Connecticut with a Bongo. I absolutely love the convertible bed and all of the other Vantastic Ideas. I just need to get my Little Friend going because he is my daily driver 🙏🏻

Sorry for the delayed reply!! The best place to ask is on the Mazda Bongo Facebook groups as there are a lot of Bongo mechanics on there and others with V6 Bongo's that might have had a similar issue.

@@VantasticIdeas Hey, thanks! I’ll give it a try. Historically, when I’ve asked about things like getting a replacement front curtain, there has been no response. Is there any group you recommend in particular? This last bed you made is my favorite. It’s very much along the design of a bed that is in my vintage travel trailer. They call them “gaucho” beds 🙂
