True, tracks and car. Not a usual habit. Went out to see if it could be done. Most probably would have worked if I deflated more

That looked like a lot of fun. If I remember correctly your Van is on a patrol chasis or patrol axles. Might have a excuse now to upgrade the steering components.

You are correct. Van has Patrol axles. Yep, going to go everything again and make it bulletproof

I don't get the point of driving those roads in 4x2? It just messes up the road even further for the next vehicle to use it.
@Overlandervanman

I didn't feel the need for a long explanation on the other reason but now feel it is warrented. I was forced to drive with odd sized tyres =axle wind up. Didn't say anything. Wanted to see who is sharp enough to see that tyre and spare not the same size

@@Overlandervanman But in your intro The Challenge was to See how far you could get in 4x2 only?
@Overlandervanman
@Overlandervanman 3 жыл бұрын
Yes for two reasons . One i wanted to see if whole route is do-able in 4x2 after several requests .I also ended up being sort of forced to do it in 4x2 and only select 4x4 when really needed because of axle wind up. You can then only go short distances in 4x4 or you will break your transfer case

dude how fast did you drive over that terrain that was hectic hahha
@Overlandervanman
@Overlandervanman 2 жыл бұрын
Way too fast for sure. Was too late to engage 4x4 and tried to push through jn 4x2. Was only able to do short distances in 4x4 because i was forced to drive with one odd sized wheel

Did the trip down to the Spoeg River mouth in my old stock standard Triton 4x4. Had to do a lot of spade work at the beginning. What an adventure! Still can't believe the bakie left the place on its own wheels. You have to be brave or stupid to do such a trip solo.
@Overlandervanman

Yes it can be very stressful to drive that area solo. Well done on making it all on your own.

We stayed at Houthoop during one Christmas and on the morning of 26 December I was supposed to drive to Saldanha to visit my parents. The car battery was completely dead, couldn’t even jump it. We towed the car to Kleinzee to people we know there and tried to figure out what to do. Kleinzee at that time was very run down and had basically nothing there. Everything in the Northern Cape, Namaqualand region, will be closed on 26 Dec. Even the closest biggest town in Springbok, everything was closed. Danie was open and working and two weeks before started to sell batteries. Can you believe it. I basically broke down in the most unlikely place to get help, but we got it.

Very brave in a little car. But I have to admit, even the most robust vehicles have failures unexpected. I prepared my military Unimog U1700 for 5 years and on its first trip to central Australia, the gearbox failed. Thats life, and it can bring out the worst but hopefully the best when you ask Jesus for guidance.

Yes, but not enough. As I entered the Park I asked the warden re condition of roads and recommended pressure. He said good and 1,8b. Way too much and that sandy patch caught me off guard cause around sharp bend

Think you need to read the other comments . I explained why i had no choice . Was forced to drive with odd sized tyres- Believe me axle wind up way more serious than driving in two wheel drive and only engaging 4wd when absolutely necessary

Not being able to drive in 4x4 the whole way because of axle windup was a big problem. Was forced to drive with different sized tyres because of a blowout. Check my last video in same area and then you will see i drove slow because i had luxury of 4x4.
