Cast pistons need approx .0015" clearance, forged pistons are .004" to .006" on average. Forced induction/nitrous higher Temps the larger the clearances. Ring land grooves must be correct dimensions as well, but I'd thank you would notice that when you installed the rings. I use Ross pistons and have never had issue.

The crazy thing is we just had a big block come in the shop a fresh build that a pull truck guy bought he said it had no power and he burned two starters up trying to get it going when we pulled it down the guy who built the engine installed file fit rings with no end gap and some how didn’t destroy the engine

Keep up the good work and thank u for the wisdom

A good machinist can re-cut the necessary taper and save the pistons with a little re-work depending if you can get the stuck rings off.

Thank goodness we didn’t have to go that rout

Had a set of a diamonds that had no taper from under the oil ring to bottom off skirt, clearance was .006 it seized up on warm up, they need .004 taper at least, they came good for it , but it ruined the block....these weren't cheap pistons , US made,?

I’m definitely measuring taper from now on

Made in USA doesn't automatically mean it's going to be made better. I've seen it many times made in this country total junk. There were certain AFR heads made in China were better than USA made. We sold and trained other countries our manufacturing plus they steal it too. Then we turn around send our factory's there because of BS in this country. We were manufacturing power house and manufacturing was bread and butter of middle class. All the trades having shortage of workers and some of them we have don't care what they put out too. I have friend working at John Deere and he's the last of machinist/tool and die maker there. What's going to happen after he retires or quits? We are shooting out legs out from under us and now leaning on other countries wait depending on them.
