Disaster Strikes! DJI Mini 2 Unboxing

Bought a Mavic Pro May 2017, flew quite a bit that year. Didn’t fly much in 2018, fast forward to May 2019. Take Mavic out to take some aerial of a house that burned 1/4 mile down the road. Batteries are charged and I head to my usual tale off point, cruise down to the subject site with video, circle around the subject then stop and switch to photo mode. Next thing know critical low battery and landing now. Came down in a backyard right off the street. Must have hit the power lines as i. Outdoor see some damage, good news is that it missed the pool by about 10ft. Damage was a broken front landing leg, damaged the props and the battery had some cosmetic damage. So ordered a leg and a battery (should have saved my money as I bought the fly more combo). Anyway, I flew it one more time after the repairs. Used the DJI trade in program and received a new Mini 2 fly more today. Charged the batteries and got in a first flight. Will post vid soon.

Always very complicated to recover a drone from a tree, but your weren't lucky when it fell, a lot of breakage 😕 Excellent unboxing and very good review and great new drone. The test is perfect.

I know how you feel bud. The same thing happened to me with my DJI Phantom. I never did buy a new one though. That new mini 2 is awesome. Thanks for sharing the experience.

That sucks about the Mavic pro, but what's messed up on it could cost you around $150 - $250 - the video cable, the gimbal, the body, and props all can be bought on Amazon or Ebay and the options don't end a those two places - I've got a mini 2 coming tomorrow and I'm excited as hell! Also have a Mavic pro and I always could give you guidence where to go to fix it - not sure if you're mechanically inclined but they're super easy to work on - have fun with that Mini 2! And watch that sudden rth around trees!

Wow, that broke my heart. I know the sick feeling that you get when this kind of thing happens. I flew RC planes for a while, well, tried to fly them is the truth. crashed more than I want to remember. This Mini2 is a far cry better than flying an RC plane. I crashed thousand of dollars worth of aircrafts.. The DJI Mini 2 is almost foolproof. Well, Dan Proof...

Thanks man! The worst part about crashing the Mavic is that I know better than to mess with the battery but just had a very dumb moment. Hopefully I will be smarter with the Mini 2!

Wow that sucked, The mavic mini 2 is awesome my buddy at TDR drones has the mini and the mini 2 they are awesome drones... he likes them so much I called it the Magic mini!

this little bad boy only weights like 137g but can compete with the big boys ,it sucks you crashed your Mavic Platinum Pro but i think youll be happy with the Mini 2 , good luck

Brutal crash! Looks like the Mini 2 has a great camera! Are there controls for the camera or is it's position fixed? Easy to fly? Great unboxing!

The mini 2 camera is awesome. You can control the tilt down and up. The camera also has 4x zoom at 1080. Very easy to fly but no obstacle detection. It is important to keep line of sight.

Well that may be the absolute worst case scenario... I absolutely hate every bit of this for you. I don't even have mine yet and I am already sick to my stomach... These are really wonderful drones but they are a bit pricey. I'm sorry but I only got through half of this video, after I saw the table top damage run-through I had to get out. Really hope all this works out. Maybe the video will get a million views...

Haha! The black box is being worked on by our top guys here at the agency. I will get to the bottom of the crash and report the findings!!

OK I lied I watch the rest of it. I have just got into all of this FAA information. I am aware of the 250 g rule. I did not know this went into effect yet. January 1st?

I appreciate you watching the rest of the video! The rules are already in effect for any drone over 250g. You have to register regardless with the FAA but you don't have to have a FAA label on the outside of the UAV. Although the Mini 2 is under 250, it's still not a bad idea to label your drone. You will register as a hobbyist so the same FAA label can be used on multiple UAVs. A safety course will be required soon, perhaps after 1 Jan.
