Ya that would be the idea. It's been a while since I've played, but I remembered throwing the disc upside down when I needed it to drop more quickly when going a steep downhill and didn't want it to float. Should work the same going into a stiff headwind.

i would put at the belt with the nose down. the head wind will push down a nose down disc like it lifts up a nose up disc and use a max weight gator

Pro tip if someone finds themselves at this situation: Throw the disc CLOSER to the goal so you can put it safely in next throw. Dont aim too high
