Agreed. Right now it’s January 2019, and this is my third winter getting regular practice in. This whole time I’ve been adjusting my grip rather than paying enough attention to the angle of the disc upon release. Along with learning to throw completely stationary (which removes the chaos factor in footing), having a consistent grip in place is helping greatly.

I've been playing for 17 years and I am a stronger than average forehand thrower almost exclusively. I've recently lost the only disc I used for backhand that had 4 aces on it. It was my dead straight line drive flyer. I've haven't attempted many hyzer or anhyzer shots and when I did it was never consistent. The way Uli described the follow through on the plane of the disc angle was an instant help. I went out to my backyard acreage and threw a few short drives to a basket around mandos,, playing both sides with some stable discs, and the results have me feeling excited. Thanks dude!!

This video has “back handedly” helped me out immensely!!! The crease on the hand and the focus of the release angle you talk about has completely changed my back hand!!! Ive been dominantly forehand for 6 years and my backhand has been my weakness. Its gotten my up to a quadruple bogey in a tournament (gave me a mental crisis). Im now doing nothing but throwing back hand shots when i practice which is basically relearning disc golf all over again. The technique you show here has helped me so much!!!! Thank you!

Thanks "Paulibarri" :-) Solid, concise advice from a current, top, pro disc golfer. Keeping a consistent grip, on one plane relative to your arm, is a great way to help players execute consistent, predictable, repeatable throws. Focusing on follow-through is crucial to correct release angle. A proper run up, with a full "backswing" (ball golf talk), including a full hip and shoulder turn matched with coordinated, well timed footwork, will yield greater, controlled distance. Paul's advice to methodically slow down is useful to even top pros when they need to isolate and correct bad habits. I wish I was in my 20's again so I could compete with "Paulibarri" and others!

@loopedmess5 жыл бұрын
Very dirty does have a negative effect on grip and balance. I clean all faster than mid to appear clean. Mids and putters very clean as it affects grip alot.

Assuming you always place the disc in the same hand position, how would you (or would you even want to) manipulate the nose-end of the disc?
@drkevns7 жыл бұрын
You can manipulate it with the angle you pull through. If you need a throw to be more nose up for a stall or whatever reason, you just start your reach back lower, and then release higher. You don't want to adjust your grip at all, like Uli is saying. It can be done other ways, but not with the consistency that comes with doing it this way.
@Dexecute.7 жыл бұрын
Pertaining to drives, there almost never should be any change of angle with the nose. If you're throwing downhill, you should hold the crease the same like uli says but follow through in the downwards direction.

@deanjr.15646 жыл бұрын
Personally and I’ve been known to be wrong but I think Ams including myself at one point try and force everything instead of letting the disc do the work for you and what it’s designed for. Of course you can manipulate the flight but don’t like I said force it.

@MikaKoopeli2 жыл бұрын
Some experts say that you should put the angle you want using your upper body, not followthrough. They say you should always throw same straight throw but if you want hyzer you should lean forward and if you want anhyzer you should put your weight back and lean back. Righthanded. So I don't know what to believe.

Honest question: when he says that a disc is “flippy” does he mean it’s over stable (hyzer) or under stable (annheiser)?
@Infinitediscs5 жыл бұрын
Typically flippy means that it's tends to fly understable and flips over once it's thrown.

More on hit point would be appreciated... Almost went over it... Thanks
@sfincione20007 жыл бұрын
I think that's one of the hardest thing to describe. I think the best way to describe it is by imagining the line you're throwing on. There's the start point, where your pull-back goes back to and then you're pulling straight through on the line you've picked. The hit point (for me) is where your arm is about to come off that line. If you hold on too late, you grip-lock it, too early, same problem, other side. But I think the line of the shot is the key. Hope that helps. I'm no Paul Ulibarri, so take this with the proverbial grain of salt =)

@sfincione20007 жыл бұрын
I might be wrong saying this so please shoot me down if I'm talking through my ass here, but I thought that the more spin you put on a flippy disc, the more it flips. Or have I misunderstood something? When Uli's throwing his flippy green disc at around 5:43 he said that because he has great spin on the disc that it holds the line and doesn't flip. Ok, he put it on a mad hyzer so the chances of it flipping were like zero but still. Was that that correct?
@Scalemailmailmail7 жыл бұрын
I',m not sure you guys are right. Just how a gyroscope resist change, a disc with spin will resist change. The more spin, the more it wants too keep holding the angle you put on it. But then again, as you try to put more spin on the disc you tend to throw a little harder. Harder = flippier, so it's kind of a tradeoff.

@iv15larsen7 жыл бұрын
I agree Jonjey. I am not dissing Paul's effort in trying to help people, but he does more to confuse them than help, by simply repeating "follow-through". It's like teaching somebody how to dunk a basketball, you don't just "figure it out", it comes from 1000's of jumps. A lot of the top pros, like Paul, have put in years of practice and they are so skilled that they do things without thinking, and so it is difficult for them to relate and teach new players who are trying to "figure it out". The players are asking basic questions and he doesn't really have answers, they are just so happy to be around a top-level player and they probably just view themselves as unskilled. I do realize that he's at least making an effort to help people, and he probably feels like saying, "look... if you want to get to my level then throw a million throws and figure it out just like I did!" So, better advice would be to play lots of catch, with putters, and throw everyday and you will start to reach these milestones, etc.... All that talk about spin control?? Get out of here with that mess....
