this video is incredibly old but man is this helping me! I'm going to try and get a feral cat spayed this coming week and I wasn't really sure how to go about it after (I assume the place I take the cat to will tell me) but this video and comment are giving a great sense of relief. Thank you so much for this video.

Thank you for posting this! I've rescued 5 feral cats and worked with them to socialize. My spicy boy is getting snipped right now.

Dr. Langlois, this is very helpful information! There is a feral momma cat that has just completed her 2nd litter, and I believe, has pretty much weaned her latest kittens at this point. She has come to trust me, so I believe I will be able to coax her into the carrier tomorrow morning and take her for spaying. Timing is critical, as I don't want to risk her getting pregnant again, as I would NOT want to abort any unborn kittens. Now that I know what to do, I'll bring her back home the morning of her surgery, and put her in one of our 3 x 2 pet cages, with litter box, food and water on standby. She'll have to be outside, since I have 7 cats indoors, and they won't take to another cat. The weather is holding good - not too hot, too cold, or any rain pending. Then before I leave for work noon of the next day, I'll release her. That would be just a little over 24 hours since procedure. If she seems fairly compliant, I"ll release her a little later, perhaps when I get home at 10 pm the 2nd day. She was not very maternal, as evidenced by her attitude toward both litters. Once the kittens are independent of nursing, she pretty much tells them that they are on their own, and she does not try to gather them back, as she is ready to mate again very quickly.

i had 1 male and 1 female cat sterilized (both stray cats). I brought them in on Monday. The male was operated the same day and I picked him up the next day and released him and he is doing fine. He was hungry right away and is eating a lot. The female only was operated on Tuesday and I picked her up on Wednesday and released her right away. However, she did not show up again and she has not eaten since Sunday. I am quite worried because she is very young. And the sterilization of a female cat is a much bigger operation than for a male cat. Question: do these cats go into hiding for a few days and then will show up again? I built a shed for them and it was raining outside but she was not there this morning. I guess I have to wait and hope for the best.

Did she showed up again? 😮
@dutchy5752 Жыл бұрын
@@DiegoThz yes a few days ago. She showed up August 7. So I brought her in July 24. She was operated on July 25 and I released her July 26. She showed up August 7. So about 15 days that I did not feed her. She was/is skinny but slowly trusting me again. Yesterday she ate good. The male eats like crazy. But I am very happy she is back. She will make it.

Hi doc! can i release the female cat after a day of surgery already even tho she has a midline incision? When its a feral is it necessary i request for a flank incision so as to have less risk of infection and wound opening up? I want to have more cats tnred in my community but my only problem is the post op care i cant keep them all in my space , esp when theyre unhandlable ferals 😢

They gave me meds, steroids and antibiotics. I tried putting it in food and she won't eat it. I'm not going to traumatize her by forcing medication in her for God's sake she is barely comfortable around me

It is safe for a feral cat to be released after a day of the surgery? We have a 8month old cat that is quite a feral one (doesn't really wanted to be touched). I wanted her to be spayed but don't know how to handle her during post operation. I am quite stressed now because I don't know what to do. :(

To identify that it's neutered/spayed. So that someone else doesn't waste their time in catching it and performing a surgery, only to see it was already neutered
