The way that Nancy dealt with the reasoning behind Sasha leaving Italy spoke volumes about her character. Her default setting is to create whatever reality suits her. The way that she handled Emma (Sasha’s mother) on the phone was also very revealing. She paints Johnathan as a saint regardless of the evidence in front of her face. Also, the way that Nancy handled the death of her son lacked integrity.

What do you mean, "lacks integrity"?
@instructivesilence359
@instructivesilence359 2 ай бұрын
@ Lack - the state of being without or not having enough of something. Integrity - the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles that you refuse to change She was being dishonest about why she was blaming Kathryn as the reason for her son’s death. Also, writing porn fiction about your son and being hellbent on revenge, as your method of grieving, is morally inept.

@@instructivesilence359 Well Nancy and Stephen are definitely cut from the same cloth. But Nancy didn't publish it. And even if Catherine paints Johnathon as a rapist, we still can't be 100% how true that is. It seems to me that not publishing her novel is a sign of good character. And writing it while grieving was a good way for her to deal with such an unexpectant loss. Too bad Stephen didn't have an equally clever way of dealing with the loss because clearly he just can't move on.

The beginning of each episode has a disclaimer warning about physical & emotional violence. Up until the current episode, there has been no real physical violence. This 11:50 11:50 11:50 raised my suspicions by the 2nd episode. I knew that the book wasn’t true. What mother writes so explicitly about her son’s sexual affairs. I always suspected that Jonathan was a sexual abuser & rapist. Episode 6 confirms this for me. Sasha left after a big fight. We don’t hear what her mom told Nancy. I think he tried to rape Sasha. Nancy is in complete denial. She tries to present her son as an innocent victim in her distorted story. These characters are all so twisted ! Robert is a complete nitwit& Stephen is completely deranged. Episode 6 will tell the real story. I’ve mostly enjoyed the series, but it’s been a bit bloated & the narration in different voices was confusing & unnecessary. Love those cats though!

I think the narrration changes voices to further alert us to whose perspective is being portrayed depending on the episode and settings. The narrators are clearly biased and that helps to support the notion that stories are heavily biased retellings. Hence the need for Disclaimers. I hadn't thought of Johnathon as being a rapist. But clearly he is no boy scout as well. But if he is a rapist then how does he end up saving the boy? Does Catherine kill him at sea and make up the fantasy of Jonathon saving her son? I can't imagine that kinda story would sit well with Stephen

@@Stress-Free-Kmaybe he brought Nick out to sea and hadn’t even tried to save him. Stephen says earlier in the series that he would never save a child…that is telling.

@@ladybugblue2002 So both Jonathan and Nicholas are drowning and Catherine can only save one? Also, it does seem odd that Nicholas doesn't have any recollection of anyone saving him as a child. I think that would have part of the family lore even if didn't remember. Yep, the saving child bit doesn't mesh. So how does Jonathan end up drowned?

This episode was sooo good I am tempted to buy the book and just read it because I don’t want to wait a whole week for the finale!

Having these super star actors play such highly peculiar characters, is such a treat. But it's the crushing of 6 pills with Catherine suspecting nothing, that strains credulity. Seems like dropping the pills in their very dark Earl Grey tea would have been more believable. I suspect that Nicholas will wake up. And tell his father what happened. Sending Robert to confront Stephen and save Catherine just in the nick of time. Some way, somehow, Stephen must be found out. I"m pulling for some kind of justice for Catherine who really didn't do anything horrible, even if she did seduce Johnathon while on holiday, as they say.

Thank you. I just finished the final ep 7. One question though. How did she know all the little details when writing the book. Like about the hotel room and other things she could possible know......... I know she was good writer and embellished her version but still she knew little details and it blew Katherines mind.

I think the implication is she visited all those places when they were in Italy. I assume they asked to look at it when they visited the spot where Jonathan died.

It’s interesting to me that none of the reviewers mention the great young actress that plays the young Kate….hmmm?… That said, this reminds me of the way Brad Pitt was “kicking some major acting ass in Benjamin Button for example,(displaying some of his best acting ever,) then midway here comes Kate Blanchet, and lo and behold the entire dynamic of the film changed when “drama queen” Kate basically took over the film bigger than life altering the continuity of which from that moment forward it was the “Kate show” ……quite frankly I felt she was the wrong pick for that film! My opinion. Kate is a great actress but a heavyweight of whom should back off occasionally allowing others to fill the screen… Continuing my thoughts on this series …..well for starters these people are ever so childish, totally unrealistic, entitled, narcissistic and even evil….Kevin.Cline is certifiable, as is Jacob, as is Jacob’s very immature Dad….i mean really? 20 yrs later and he throws his wife out of the house without listening to one word if her side?? This 40 something man acting like a 10 yr old!….. Everyone of them has serious mental issues…. The series could be better, but at least it’s captivating to keep interest.
