another thing i just noticed about that scene too is that you can see that theo runs a different path than all the other hardie boys and its actually the smarter path because it doesn't lead to a bottleneck and dead end and he would be harder to hit running parallel instead of s straight back right along the two mercenaries line of fire. Which is something I find interesting because earlier in the game when you first meet the hardie boys theo is portrayed as the experienced older person of the group that people don't mess with because he knows his stuff (and i also think the game mentions or insinuates that theo was the original leader of the hardie boys or holds a lot of sway of them and their actions because of his experience) and this small detail back that up.

@@SupahTrunks7 It doesn't have context, but the player would get the context before they reached the scene the clips are from. My first playthrough I was fully convinced I was gonna solve the case before the tribunal, if I had seen this then I would have realized about halfway through the game that I was gonna have to fight the mercenaries to protect the Hardie boys so the countdown till the tribunal didn't really matter, my investigation was not going to be successful and Harry was gonna get shot. There would be way less mystery about the investigation if you went in with the knowledge that the Hardie boys were not your enemy and no matter what you did this was leading to bloodshed, and you would probably have that realization the first time you meet the Hardie boys on the second day, super early in the game. There's smaller stuff too, like if the player remembers there was a boat ride in this video when they make it to the tribunal without doing it they'll know Harry and Kim both survive because there's gonna be more content after the tribunal. They'll know Ruby kills herself, or at least threatens to. They'll know helping the speed freaks is good because they saw Harry dancing in the church with them. They'll know Harry's apricot chewing gum scented ghost is still out there and you can even call her. What I'm saying is I think if you show this video to someone to convince them to play the game it won't spoil anything when they watch it, but it will spoil things as they play the game. It definitely makes me want to play Disco Elysium more than the trailer on the steam page, but I think you would enjoy the game less if you watched this before playing

“I missed” “Not true. He purposefully over-aimed and shot your window. You had him second guessing himself.” The composed decisiveness of visual calculus and the other skills during the tribunal, when it really matters, is so gratifying after you’ve slowly rebuilt confidence in your identity as a competent detective. In those moments you’re not a emotional wreck or a failure. Your mind isn’t fighting itself. You’re Harry ‘Human can-opener’ Dubois and by god you have these killers, and this case on the ropes.

Harry is a very damaged genius, but a genius nevertheless. He can work out things from the smallest details and track them back to their source, he can peel open cover stories like tin cans and as Kim can testify, he never gives up. Plus there's just the fact that he may be getting insights from "something" otherworldly. He can look at a line of bullet holes and see not only the victims, but the firing squad and the commanding officer, just as they were, the moment FIRE was called. He knew that woman's husband was missing before she was even ready to admit it herself. He speaks to corpses and they offer him truths. The city itself speaks to him, offering him secrets and warnings he seems to have no rational way of knowing. Harry's mind has to move fast, it's the only way he could possibly keep up with it all.

@JamesTobiasStewart It's probably why he's still a Detective, despite all the chicanery he's gotten up to over the years. Not only does the man get *results* but he does it with an incredibly low Body Count. He Detects. He Polices. He Keeps The Peace. And it is enough.

That strikes me most is how fast this scene in reality, after only around 0.7 second after shot was fired by Harry rifleman already took aim and woman started reaching for her pistol, and then 0.5 seconds later all Hardie boys already run away then almost immediately rifleman shoots at Harry while Kim takes aim at hole in his helmet then synchronously him and woman fires their guns and finally after 0.2 seconds harry get shots and falls unconscious. In summary this long and detailed scene in Harry head in cruel reality only took around 3-4 seconds, it’s both insane but also realistic considering combat experience and tension to pull trigger for everyone involved…

18 TIMES WATCHED IN 2 WEEKS. I want people to watch this to get them in to the game!... but really it makes me want to force friends to play this game so I can show them this. Used to make AMVs as a kid . I think I know how much vision went in to this. And that feeling when you nail a great visual with the drops in the music, and the the narrator overlay. It's soooooo good. I love this because It feels like you loved making this. it comes through. Thank you. it's awesome yo!

Just finished the game, thank you for bringing this edit man, it really sums up the greatness of the game, its atmosphere, tension and very well written story. I love editing stuff, so the game motivated me to make something that will truly show what this game really is, I couldn’t have done any better ever, thank you again

For me the most beautiful moments in the game are very small and hard to get. There are so many little moments like that in the game depends on which way you build Harry. Some moments were too personal for me, like this one: SPOILERS AHEAD. For example my moment was on the island at the end, if you dont sleep in the bunker and go to the coast behind it at the first place, next to the big chain, that goes into the sea from some other destroyed bunker literally on the edge of that island. If you have very high Inland Empire, Shivers, Volition and Perception, you found the pants called Pour L'Homme Labourer Jeans and Apricot Chewing Gum Wrapper, interacted with it, got and internalized thought Apricot Chewing Gum Scented One, you have that thought dialogue: INLAND EMPIRE: - A strange feeling... looking at the water. Maybe you should wander off into the sea? Leave it all and walk in... ELECTROCHEMISTRY: - With a bottle in your hand. - "A bottle in my hand?" - Always. "Why?" INLAND EMPIRE: - Perhaps there's someone there? Under the water. Waiting for you. SHIVERS: - In front of the video rental on the corner. At the crossing... PERSEPTION: - Smelling of Tutti Frutti and betrayal. PAIN THRESHOLD: - Baby, you know it's going to hurt. "But it's cold..." INLAND EMPIRE: - Yes -- cold and still. But love is warm, like inside of her mouth. - "No-no-no-no" - Yes, yes, yes, yes. VOLITION: - No-no, we're not starting with that. Not now. Not this time. This thought is over. Raise your sight. INLAND EMPIRE: - In the snowing mirrors of the bay you see Martinaise, reflected. Tall edifices of ruins reach into the water, like shimmering towers. And the shacks too. Pine trees and moto lorries, upside down... Islets and posts like stepping stones lead into the water in front of you. Go. Step in... it's been too long. [Shake your head] The entire vibe, the La Revacholiere ost, the knowledge, that its almost the end. its just... oof.

Probably the best trailer this game could ask for maybe the music is a bit too loud

I think this video and music choice perfectly captures the narrative of DE. It starts slow, Raphael walks through the remnants of his mind, city and the crime. Slowly learning all about the world, himself and the situation he's in. And then once he finds his footing and can semi-properly function he starts "living" in this world, not just learning but also leaving his influence around here and there. Raphael begins to "live" again way before the ending or the tribunal. It is specifically how he "lived" up until those points that determine the outcome but the process starts before. I'd say midway through day 2 or day 3 is when the person with many names becomes complete and an entire lifetime worth of energy and confidence rushes back into the previously half-empty shell. You can feel it in almost every interaction that with each passing hour Raphael's hands become more and more untied, his posture gets more and more upright and the pace quickens significantly. You have so many places to be and so much energy needed to expend that the only way to do that is to not stop for a moment, not even a minute to catch your breath. And so Raphael runs, jumps, dances, fights and does all sorts of questionable shit to throw out all the energy he has to keep the momentum going, to not stumble and fall. And then it all ends and you are met with the consequences of your actions, a reward of how much energy and passion you've thrown out there, an equal amount of answers to the questions asked and a solid statement of how much of "life" now resides within Harrier Ambrosius Sunset.

this was the video that got me to play the game. I didn't have context for any of it so none of it was a spoiler for me. this is one of the greatest games, maybe of one of the greatest pieces of media I've ever interacted with in my life. thanks oblivionblade.

He more than deserves it. Detective. Arriving. On the scene. It's the *only* moment where the voices in his head come together to say it, the only moment where they agree on something. All the other times they are at odds with each other, each one giving Harry its own perspective. But that part, they come together to say it. It's the one immutable fact about him; he *is* a good detective, the human can-opener, who manages to get people to open up to him, and to crack the most difficult cases; as you find out later, before his bender, he was the best detective in his precinct.
