Part 2 of 2. Pretty good game from 2004 in which the Braves clinch the NL East. Andre Dawson joins Skip and Joe for Braves Friday Nite Xtra. I thought the matrix board was great that night, and some good fan costumes too.

I remember the ole red A across the catcher's helmet. Man this brings back some memories when I was little. 2018 was more unexpected than 1991 in my opinion. Game 3 of the 2018 NLDS with Acuña Jr's Grand Slam will always be in my top 5.

I really thought the Marlins in 2004 were gonna win the NL East, coming off the World Series run, amazing roster, all that pitching, getting AJ Burnett back from surgery, Armando Benitez being the best closer in all of baseball in 2004. Given, they did lose Pudge Rodriguez in free agency after 2003 (but they acquired Paul LoDuca in a trade), and they also traded Derek Lee after 2003 for basically nothing since the Marlins wanted to clear salary (UNREAL). I mean, all Atlanta had guaranteed in 2004 was their offense with Chipper-Andrew-Furcal-JD Drew-Marcus GIles, and their closer in Smoltz. Everyone else in the Braves offense was a question mark = Estrada, Julio Franco, Marrero, LaRoche, But the biggest surprise of the 2004 Braves was their starting pitching, with pitchers who looked done in their career entering 2004 = Jaret Wright, Josh Thompson, Paul Byrd. Entering 2004, I thought Atlanta was gonna win like 86 games and miss the postseason. The fact that they almost won 100 games is truly remarkable.

Shame that he didnt want to be a closer after this 2004 season anymore. If he had remained a closer, I think Atlanta could have made the postseason in 2006 and 2007
