Oh boy my weekend has been a weekend of going back to the 80s and one video (yesterday) was the Axel one? I'd love to own one but for me it's the light displays and personality. Modern tech is too falsely perfect. Metal pieces of art aren't they? Best box Aztec gods commanding in tempo and melody. Thanks for the videos.

Someone was selling a similar model of this on eBay for $2,500 AU (pickup only) a couple of months ago - I took one look at the pics and said "no way" (it was missing parts including a cassette door) - price was IMO way too high considering it does not have auto-reverse tape decks. Once again you got this one working Teddy, despite losing a couple of tapes in the process. Peace be with you.

Nice work on restoring that beauty to its former glory! We all have to do our best to keep these classics running. I just got one of these Disco Lite boomboxes but mine was sold under the Clip Sonic brand name. It also suddenly made that same loud humming sound when I put the selector switch into the tape setting a few days ago for the first time since I got it. It would make that sound as soon as I put the switch on "Tape," whether a tape was playing in either deck or no tape was playing. I tried turning the power off for a while and then turning it back on but the hum was still there. Before I bought mine, the previous owner (he bought my Disco Lite brand new) sent me a video of it in operation and it made that same humming sound once in the video. Unlike the Disco Lite in this video though, my humming sound only comes through the right channel while the left channel is clean. How did you fix that humming sound? Was it easy to fix? I actually got the hum sound to go away when I just used the record function on the number 2 tape deck. I did not put a tape in that deck and I just left it recording for about 30 seconds and then the hum went away completely. I don't know if this will be a permanent fix but it has been about three or four days since I did that and the hum has not come back. I wonder if I have to do a more permanent fix for it like what you did. I only had this problem once so I don't know if my fix will work every time.

I posted the lengthy comment below in a reply to another Disco Lite boombox video, but I thought that I would also post it here since the Discolite in this video has a very bright, white light coming from its blue woofer dust cap. Hopefully you'll find what I wrote informative and helpful. I noticed that this one Discolite boombox has a beautiful vibrant blue light coming from its woofer dust cap: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJ-skmqHg8SLo5o kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5XQYYakpNlrjZI It's the only Discolite that I've seen with a nice blue woofer light and it's what immediately caught my eye. The Discolite in those two videos was sold under the Breakdancer name. That is the only one that I have seen with such a beautiful deep blue light so maybe the ones with the Breakdancer brand name have better blue dust caps. Maybe they were from a later production run by Skitronic (the company that actually made all these Discolite boomboxes sold by numerous different brands that are all now long-gone) and by then they perfected the blue dust cap. If you want to improve your blue woofer illumination, you can do what I did and simply color the bulb blue. To do that you first have to remove the light bulb holder from the back of the Discolite. You just pull the light holder out straight without any unscrewing at all. It is just simply pressed in place. There are two little notches in the base of the holder that you can insert a flat tool into and pry the holder out straight. You have to look very closely because the two notches are hard to see since the holder is made from clear plastic. I pulled out the bulb behind the blue woofer dust cap on my Discolite (sold under the Clip Sonic brand name) because the light coming through the dust cap was an ugly white and not blue at all. I think that this is a common problem with older model Discolites that weren't sold under the Breakdancer name. The yellow, red, and green woofer light colors all shine through bright and colorful but the blue one looks really bad and not blue at all on mine. I removed the bulb from its holder and simply colored its entire clear glass with a light blue Sharpie felt tip permanent ink pen. I pulled the bulb a little bit out of its holder and I colored its glass all the way completely down to the black heat shrink tubing that covered its base. When I was done, there was absolutely no clear glass left on the bulb. Now my woofer shines nice and blue! It's not a nice dark blue like the one in this video but it looks great considering how fast, easy, and cheap it was to do. The hard part was applying the blue ink evenly over the entire glass light bulb surface. If you apply it too light in some spots, then more of the white light will shine through that part if the bulb and result in ugly white "blotches" on the woofer's dust cap. I had to pull out the bulb and recolor over the lighter blue parts several times. If you don't remove the bulb from the holder and color its entire glass surface like I mentioned before, then that will also result in ugly white light on portions of the dust cap, as I found out on my first try at this modification. Also, be careful when reinstalling the light bulb holder back through the woofer magnet. If you scrape the bulb on the magnet, you can scrape some of the blue ink off of it and that will result in ugly white spots on the dust cap. It is difficult to slide the bulb holder back in place without scraping the bulb - trust me! Just take your time. If you mess up, you'll have to pull the holder out again and color over the spot on the bulb where the ink was scraped off. I know all about this step since I did it several times. If you do this modification, make sure to use a light blue colored Sharpie pen. I first used a standard dark blue one and it blocked too much of the light. The woofer dust cap was a nice dark blue color but it was too dimly lit. The lighter blue Sharpie pen gives a sky blue color and it allows the light to shine just as bright as the three other colors. The blue coming from my Discolite's woofer now looks just like the blue coming out of this Discolite with the ITC brand name on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGTNimeIbrB8nNE It's not perfect like on the Breakdancer Discolites but it is now a lot better than the ugly white color that it originally had. If you don't like the sickly white color coming from your supposedly blue Discolite woofer dust cap, then try this easy modification. If you don't like it, the blue ink can easily be cleaned off with isopropyl alcohol or nail polish remover so this modification is not permanent.

@@teddyhashee You're welcome! If anyone wants to try coloring their blue Disco Lite woofer light bulb like what I did, I used the Sharpie pen color called "Blue Ice." It's shown here: www.sharpie.com/all-markers/classic/fine/SHFineBlueIceFine I did that modification about two months ago and my woofer is still shining a nice blue color. The color has not faded at all.

This one is my client's. But I found the other one many years ago at the estatesales. It was in the hoarding house's basement where no lights just dark, I mean pitch blackness. I spent hours in there and found it. It was in the very deep corner under the tons of trash. It was a great experience for me!! LOL.
