Very thorough! I just changed the belt on my Sanyo m9902. But I borked the radio tensioner and and couldn't remember how it was originally strung. Always take lots of pictures when you start to disassemble old electronics!

That boombox is almost as much of a tape deck nightmare as the Sharp GF-777 4-speaker deal you worked on previously Teddy. I admire your patience and the steps you took to repair/restore this and I am sure the owner probably understands some compromise had to be made with regard to the deck mechanism. Peace be with you.

Another excellent job Ted. Those Sanyo decks tend to have a fair amount of wow&flutter. The only way to make'em sound as good as possible. Is the installation of a new pinch roller. As well as the correct belts. The main belt for that unit is an SCQ 10.0 and the tape counter belt is a SCY 7.0. Sometimes those variety belt packs just don't have the correct size belt in them. However you did a great job with what you had!👍👍

Thank you Ralph for your compliment, and thank you for the info about belt size. It will help many viewers who need to replace the belt on this machine!

Which year is the machine from? Many of those rather simple Japanese devices made their way into East Germany where we used them extensively for recording from West German radio and playback all day long ;-) Who had an "western" (yea Japan was in the west back then :-) ) recorder was king. Wow and flutter had always been an issue - but this one sounds terrible - even for early and mid 80ies standards - and also compared to eastern products such as RFT. Was it supposed to be like that when it was new or is it completely worn out? Strange though because you replaced almost all the moving parts.
@teddyhashee5 жыл бұрын
Probably from "80s. I did replace the belts, but did not replace the other parts. Especially worn-out white pulley must be replaced, but there is no way to find out same parts at this time. I guess it had a more stable speed when the all parts were new and could have much better sound. Thank you for the info and history! I enjoyed your comment.

Hi I just bought a Panasonic RX-5010 and the seller said that the tape counter doesn’t work. Do you know any way to fix it? I just watched your video, when you took the boombox apart it looks to me like a belt drives the tape counter directly from the cassette deck was this common from all manufacturers? I’m going to assume like many other tape driven machines from the time I would have to replace that along with the other belts.
@teddyhashee5 жыл бұрын
Most of the counter uses rubber belt. So open the boombox and check inside. Probably you will find the worn out drive belt or maybe there is no belt at all. Anyway, it is good that you change all belts for its best performance.

Hi, can anyone help me out here? I found my old Sharp GF 9292, but after switching the fuses in the plug, I found only the radio function was working as well as one speaker not making much noise (although a little) also the cassette tape wouldn’t turn/play? It is old, but is it worth me taking the back off and fiddling around, are there specialists that can fix it, or should I just keep it as is?
@teddyhashee5 жыл бұрын
Probably you need to replace the cap for the one channel, replace the drive belts for the cassette deck, and other work. Hope you will be able to get it back to the working condition.

I buy assorted belts from ebay, amazon and try to find the best one onto the restoring boombox. Some of the boombox needs specific belts, then I order them from online shop. So for your boombox, first you need to find the size of the belts, what kind of belts ( flat, square, or round, etc...) and research it online. Also you want to join the forum for the boombox, you can get many great information from there.

I have recently refurbished some boomboxes (replacing more than just a belt) to bring them back to near-perfect working condition. I believe many of them are worth saving. I've gone further and repaired the main board in a few (and the tuner in a couple because FM wasn't working).
