I only discovered them this past June. It's a shame Mattel put so little effort into this line, because there are a lot of great little details. The doll named Roswell has the best T-shirt underneath her purple mesh top: a little sunglass-wearing cow is getting sucked into a UFO. Another doll's Walkman has a removable cassette. There are little nods to Monster High on clothing. Mattel just...didn't bother.

ngl the idea of a doll like lamilly could have been good if she was 1) actually nice looking and had actually fashionable clothes, making a more "realistic" doll destigmatising bigger body shapes/stretch marks etc doesn't need to come at a cost of making her ugly and unfashionable cause its literally sending the exact opposite message of what they were aiming for and making it seem like these things are flaws to be accepted rather than just...normal neutral things. and 2) it didnt help her creators were extremely vocal about bashing other fashion dolls like barbie and being extremely misogynistic
@Adv18

Honestly I’m glad their doll line failed & I’m sick to death with the criticism Barbie is getting. The Barbie brand has tried to be more diverse, and as a result has started seeing a drop in their quality due to the costs of making new molds constantly. And dare I say, a lot of the Barbie dolls these days are not looking good anymore. So if it’s true that this doll line ended and they were a key player in Barbies decline, good riddance, we don’t need that toxic crap in the doll industry
@neb.9489
@neb.9489 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. It’s very “not like other girls”. A realistic doll doesn’t mean it has to be unfashionable. The doll was hella bland as well. Lammily could’ve been better as an educational tool to teach about skincare, periods, puberty, but instead they chose to go…their route
@bayleafmaria944
@bayleafmaria944 2 жыл бұрын
The other problem with Lammily for me was that Lamm's fans were mostly arrogant, rabid Barbie haters who would shame you out of the social media groups if they discovered you liked Barbie, Bratz or any other non-Lammily doll line. I was in one of the Facebook groups for Lammily once just to see what the new releases were and I was shocked to see they were accusing Mattel of copying Lammily and saying that Lammily was the first fashion doll to have a wheelchair - I almost got run off the group for pointing out that there were 3 versions of Barbie's friend Becky who came with wheelchairs! Share a Smile, School Photographer and Paralympics Becky! I was also attacked for mentioning the different Barbie body types because the curvy Barbies could never be any kind of representation because they were pretty and had curves instead of being plain and flat like Lammily. Sigh. The entire line and the community that went with it was just so toxic. I'm glad they're gone, honestly.

Wild Hearts Crew are amazing dolls, but I think the branding was a little confusing compared to other doll lines. The vibe I remember getting from their little bios was that they were from an 80s small town in the desert, where everyone drag races, watches for aliens, and does roller derby or something. Very cool and unique, but not something kids would relate to? Monster High were monsters. Bratz were fashion. WHC I think just came across in the package as... some dolls. Sadly. :(

"The clothes are so out of date on the reboot dolls." My guy, those are *literally* the clothes the Equestria Girls wear from the show... Have you ever watched it? XD Also, no, not even close to being narcissistic to wanting a doll that has a few traits that look like you. That's actually very heavily encouraged in therapy to draw yourself, and making things resembling yourself because a lot of people suffer from self image issues or confidence and being comfortable and liking things that resemble you can help you feel a lot better about yourself, and embrace your individuality instead of confirming to what people around you want to control you to be, it's deadly. You can't love someone, if you cannot love yourself. (Which, btw, this can also create victims due to abusers always targeting people with a very low self image of themselves, due to the abuser seeing them as a doormat.)

The wild hearts crew were supposed to be retro theme. There’s a lot of 80s influence. If you took some time to look at them you’ll notice what era they’re getting their inspiration from. There were so many that never lasted maybe more than a year (because Barbie always came along with the big Mattel machine to crush any doll in her path) Here are a few: Dawn, Candi, Steffi, Liddle Kiddles, Blythe, Darci (an awesome articulated disco doll from Kenner circa 1978 ) all of the Mego dolls , both 6 inch and 12 inches. I like your content but I am a bit upset. The stretch marks doll might seem to be aimed at adults but in reality you can form these at any age. Puberty for women can happen from as young as year 3/4 when you’re as young a 8 years old in some cases. I started to get stretch marks on my thighs in year 4 and I didn’t know why. no one else had marks and they kept getting darker and I thought it was ugly. Having a doll like this would have really helped me. I think it’s just a bit brash of you saying that it wouldnt appeal to girls that age when you haven’t been a young female yourself? Maybe I’m being a bit sensitive but that didn’t sit right for me. I will continue watching your channel but I really do not agree with that comment 😅 also children’s mums also have stretch marks etc and maybe they get noticed in a swimming pool and it’s teaching children that it’s a normal thing to have and not be self conscious I guess. That’s my thought 🙃

Thank you for saying this, a childhood friend of mine got strech marks at the exact same age as you when I was a child, and it made me so heartbroken to see her wear long pants constantly. Even when it was blistering hot out... I always tried my best to tell her she was awesome just the way she was, but, naturally when you hear society be so cruel to people with stretch marks for so many years, it gets to you. She ended up getting body issues because of it, and gained a eating disorder, too.

She used to be a big time doll lover/collector. She loved the shopkin dolls. I miss those days. The ever after high, monster high days. I miss playing dolls with her.

Don't know if you've heard of the Quints line of dolls. They were around in the late 80s, early 90s. They were a set of 5 babies, 2 boys, 3 girls, each with a different color, and were about the size of Chelsea/Kelly dolls. They came with play sets with clothes and accessaries. There was later a set of cousin triplets, 3 girls, who had different outfits that matched, or that when you lined the dolls up, made a picture. I loved them when I was a kid.

2010 is quite old?! That Holly Hobbie was yet another reboot of a doll from the 70s. That's old. Love this series of yours. I remember some dolls from the late 80s that you would have loved. Same scale as Barbie, but I don't think by Matel. They each wore really fancy lingerie. The quality was amazing and they were priced better than Barbie. I'll have to go rummage in the attic and see if I can find out who made them...

The holly hobbie ones came out in 2005/2006 and the one that you showed you could weave the beads that came with it through the doll's hair, the other ones had a tie dye project and a sticker project.

Bleeding Edge Goths were awesome, but they have been discontinued a long while ago. They were maybe more targeted for adult collectors but maybe good to add in a future video? :) I own two of them and love them dearly, really want to get more in the future!

I thought about Shopkins shoppies the other day. I notice I don't see them in the toy aisle anymore. The wild hearts crew reminds me of the Flava dolls Mattell made back in 2002.

Lammily was boring, as a kid I would NEVER have played with a doll like her or with modern Barbies, just because they were too realistic Kids dream big, they like fancy, unrealistic things, so if a kid has to choose between Princess Barbie in a sparkly pink ball gown that glows and Supermarket Shopping Barbie with a generic, plain t- shirt and a pair of jeans, chooses the Princess Barbie with the wonderful dress Lammily and the new Barbies are not meant for kids, they are meant for adults who take dolls and fairy tales too seriously, demanding realism, and want dolls and animated films (Disney) that match their adult, realistic vision.

Exactly! As a kid I never saw Barbie (or any other doll) as a real human. They were more like fictional characters that allowed me to create their own adventures and fashions. Same thing with cartoons and comics. So weirder so better! Today, as an adult, I do like the more realistic fashion and there is a reason why there are toy lines and collector lines. Once again, most adults do not know what entertainment kids really like and sometimes (indirectly) ruin it for them.

@@morinomajou yes, Dreamtopia dolls have diversity, there are curvy princesses, fairies and mermaids but they are too cheap and tacky We need high quality fairytale Barbie dolls, each doll with a specific color scheme to make each doll unique and different from the others

The reason why descendants don’t look like the actores it’s because if they do Disney would have to pay royalties to the actors for using their likeness. Most of the time on tv and films they use some contracts to establish how many toys and for how long they could use the likeness of a certain person. If they want to expand they would have to pay. That’s why most of the avengers toys doesn’t always looks like the actors (specially black widow because it’s doesn’t wear a mask) apparently that’s the reason why they couldn’t put Giselle as part of the Disney princess franchise, as in the animated Giselle was made on purpose to look like Amy Adams… sort of.

Ok. I have just watched all 7 videos in a row to make sure I didn't miss anything. This is gonna be long... ok. I have heard of most of these, only a few were a surprise to me. First off, I agree with everyone else on here about Wild Hearts Crew. They did NOT get the chance they deserved! Those dolls were very high quality at a time when play line Barbies were badly degrading. I had not been buying many dolls at the time but when they came out I got all 5! I love them! I never could get their fashion packs tho. Sadly. I really wish they had gotten other waves and clothes. That line had soooooo much potential for growth! Also, Barbie's Generation Girls line was awesome! I am still trying to collect all of them. A doll line you missed that was similar to Barbie and Generation Girls was Mystery Squad. Now those dolls were just IT for me growing up! Especially Kenzie! She was my absolute favorite! I LOVED that she had a grappling hook! And as i read Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes books having dolls that were meant to be detectives was perfect! Oh. Another doll line you didn't cover here, (may not have heard of it. Idk anything about what dolls the U.K. gets) but they're mini dolls like you talked about with the fashion Polly dolls. Starr Modeling Agency was the name of the line. And while their faces aren't the same kind of pretty that you'd see on a barbie, for a 6 inch doll they were pretty well made. My childhood collection of them is still in great condition. With all their accessories. And I did play with them alot as they were the same size as the mcdonald's happy meal barbies I had so many of. And to go along with sindy being a barbie knock off type of doll, there were also the Steffie-Love dolls and the Lucky Bunny dolls. They were off brand dolls I usually would get at discount stores, but the ones in the 90s were pretty decent quality (amazing compared to now) and they had good quality clothes that I really liked. And they're all still in good shape all these years later too.
