After initially not liking Cult Blood Red Moon I tried it again after 6 months and enjoyed it. I didn't let it heat up so much and tried the retro hale more and it was fine. I bought a whole tin at about $60US, which what it tobacco goes for here with tax, after seeing yours and Bradley at Stuff and Things reviews. I wish could find some Eighth State C&D as I like a little enhancement. Thanks for your reviews on all things, including the weather. 👌

Solani Silver is a top ten tobacco for me. Great stuff. Agree with you about the SotE comparison to Penzance. Burley lovers need to check out LJ Peretti’s stuff; they are primarily known for their burley tobacco, though their Oriental blends are some of the best, too (Tashkent and Oriental #40).

HU Makhuwa would be a decent stand in for HH Burley Flake or even Golden Extra. Makhuwa has Perique in it so it’s different but the underlying burley-cocoa notes remind me of those 2 Macbaren blends

Nice video Brian I agree with Gawith Hoggarth dark flake or even dark plug is similar to HH Bold. I love the Brown flake too. For me a similar tobacco to ODF is Savinelli Dablone D' Oro not exact but tickles the same itch. I didn't see what rating you gave the Solani Silver at the end just the rating chart. I can never find that stuff so it must be awesome. Stay warm cheers.

I haven't tried Artisan's Blend, so I'll give that a shot. GLP Quiet Nights has all the right components, but it has an acrid (creosote) note. It isn't unpleasant, but that makes it quite unlike Nightcap in my opinion. Maybe some age will soften it a bit. I also enjoy Star of the East, but I don't find it that similar to Nightcap, either. Maybe the flake is different, so I'll try it out. Any of the Captain Earle blends close to Nightcap? Drucquer and Sons?

As far as match blends go, SG and GH are the closest one will get for the HH line. Dark flake unscented for Bold Kentucky and FVF or Best Brown Flake for pure virginia. Best Brown Flake is actually the only blend I've found that smells like the HH Pure Virginia. Unfortunately, I do think pure virginia is better, but BBF will do as a replacement.
