Discord’s New Notifications Beta (is surprisingly good!)

This is honestly one of the best changes I've seen in recent memory. It fixes so many problems that I have with the current notification system it's almost unreal.

i'm a developer and i'm in about 200 servers in discord mostly support servers so that i can just control t/k and type out the name of the thing that i want to get support on. this will help me so much that i cant even explain (especially the mass select mute part)

This is awesome! I do still wish there was a way to completely block pings from a certain channel, let's say I am in a community server, but never care about the announcements. It'd be nice to remove the RED BADGE for the announcements channel from ever showing up in my client! Also, it'd be cool if there's a setting that hides grey-dot channels when collapsing a category, or a "Mark Grey Dots as Read" option!

i wish discord would also support multiple notification sounds and messages this way i would actually use the system for what it is intended i remember writing a simple system for mIRC back in the day where you could select any amount of people or channels and turn on/off notifications, as well as specify what type of notification, as well as the notification sound, and the notification location it was not hard to make, nor did it take very long so obviously what discord is doing is by design (just like how major corporations or governments operate) in order to make people's lives gradually more frustrating and cumbersome without people realizing that they are the proverbial frog inside the kettle of water slowly being boiled xD

you.. actually can do this as discord is now.. its actually what i do on every server... right click the server and disable all pings and notifications (notification settings > nothing suppress all mentions, then go to a channel you like.. right click.. notification settings all.. @metntions etc...

experiments can sometimes be randomly assigned, so u might be in this experiment without explicitly enabling it, I seem to have most of these features already

​@@mtarek2005No, this has been a feature for a long long time. You can set the server to no notifications and then override it for one channel. The grey dot is new, but not the override.

My only gripe with this system, is I think the old-way for notifications, that is white dot for all messages and notifications are for mention only, should have also been a template called Classic or something.

you can already do that though if you right click a server, drag on notification settings, click nothing, then go into the server and change the notification setting of a specific channel to whatever you like

I absolutely hated this feature - It would get turned on for me every time I joined a new server and I always had to go back in and disable it (I have the trusty backup that it made on 2/7/2024.) The thing that I was missing was where (and how) to actually edit the settings in each server - Now that I have that, I may give it another chance, so thank you!

its called A/B testing, some people get the feature, some do, well see the responses if they like it or not. KZbin does it too. Its normal, but on discord they have a way of enabling them even if ur not part of the group, by using a client mod that shows the hidden option "Experiments" you dont even need a client mod for that but its easier and less likely to be exploited

Honestly notification are still pretty bad. On Windows they don't pop up as notifications, so sometimes I won't see them. And if I have my computer on I won't get notifications on my phone either. I hope they fix those two
