Been a Discount Tire customer for a while, two different cars, and they have always been good to me. From the service writers to the techs. Even thought about picking up a part time job at a shop here in the Twin Cities.

I honestly miss these kind of tire machines. I now work at a dealer with the automatic stuff where you just push buttons. It’s nice but I don’t feel as in control. I worked at discount tire for 7 months, and by far was my best job. The team and management were phenomenal, we didn’t oversell anything unless it was a safety issue, and I love that we do actual repairs on flat tires. I’m not sure about other dealerships but the one I’m at just uses those plug in ones where you don’t even take the tire out. Anytime a car comes in with a nail in it or a flat tire, I refer them to discount tire that’s less than a mile away. I explain to them that our repairs do work but I highly recommend discount tire since they do it for free and get it done right. I mean on average it’s $50-$60 bucks to repair a flat at the dealer. Plus you have all that dealer crap where you have to wait forever. The only time I would go to a dealer for a tire repair or new tires is if I’m driving a more expensive vehicle like a 992 or anything like that. Overall, I would highly recommend working at discount tire, but I would check the reviews of the place first, because some are awful service while others are amazing!

Just came here to say discount tire is the only trustworthy place I’ve been able to get tires from, had a flat and Walmart wanted to charge me over 200$, not the first time they have screwed us over. Called discount tire and they hooked me up with a tire that was 67$, plus they have swapped many tires for me free of charge when I was hurting for money

Im literally going in tomorrow for my 2nd day in and will be starting the real work at a station instead of on a practice tire. Thanks for posting this cause the actually removal and installing of the tire on the rim was giving me trouble on what to do with the bar and the machine. Its been about 2.5 weeks of me working here and I like it a lot. I’d say to stick it out a while longer see where it goes cause for me all I had to do was stay after I’m scheduled when they ask me to ask questions when Idk something and picking up things quick. It is a lot to learn at once and i’m still learning different ways to do different things but once you get reps in it gets way easier. Not to say your not doing any of these things thats just how it worked for me i’m sure how busy it is played a factor in that too i’m over at north houston so we busy all the time

@@jayortiz5589 Yes still working at discount tire. Just worked today and I have to get to work by 11am tmr haha. My honest opinion would be Discount is a great job for someone who has a good work ethic and wants to work a lot of hours (they allow you to work 12 hours a day) which equals really good paychecks. But you almost expect it working that hard in the damn heat all day lol. I knew almost nothing about tires starting and my shop is full of really cool guys that help when I ask a question. The checks are actually really good and they pay you during training (where you are learning on computer). I would say go for it and if you find you don’t like it after a month then find a new job and put in your 2 weeks, good luck!

MartiX first I’ll ask how much you made at your Discount Tire, cuz all are different? I worked there until about early 2012 making $12 an hour. I work now in a completely different field of work. I joined the military for 4 years then got out and landed an IT job starting at $20 an hour. When I travel though I get “per diem” in those places around $100 a day. So daily I’ll make $260 on those days. In a couple weeks I’ll make more in IT than at Discount for a month or more. How old are you and are you a tech or salesman? All the guys I worked with left DT and got much better paying jobs after leaving.

Best Practices is a term used by Discount Tire. They go hand in hand with our Dream Board, which contain our Operating Philosophies, Our Vision and Overall Strategy. In regards of what a Best Practice is, they have to do with our #1 Goal, which is to Keep Myself and My Team mates SAFE. Discount tire regularly over inflates tires to wear them out prematurely. No where in your car manual does it say to ever over inflate tires. They say they fix nail holes in tires free but mine still leaks air because they did not fix it. Kept my rim and tried to sell me another one. Said my tire pressure sensors were worn out and needed new ones. They are still working fine.
@Isaiah013

We always inflate tires according to manufacturers specs except for trailer tires which we air up to max psi or whatever customer wants.
