Warren & Julie Travel - Slow Travel Nomad Expats

Күн бұрын

In today's video we share our exploration of Bucharest Romania. Come along as we share our booking apartment, eat out at restaurants, explore old town, see popular sights, and visit a farmers market, and of course we share costs along the way. The city of Bucharest is Romania's capital and the 7th largest city in Europe with a metro area of 2.3 million people. Bucharest has many foreigners calling the city home due to the low cost of living. The average US Retiree on Social Security receives $1,550 a month, and a couple on Social Security receives over $2,500 a month. A US Expat living on Social Security can expect a lower cost of living in Romania when compared to the living costs in the US.
Currently the Romanian exchange rate is 4.48 ROM to $1.00 USD

Do you want to live abroad as an Expat? Are you looking for affordable and viable options? We are exploring the world to see what it's like to live in a country, and also discover if Residency is an option.
We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it's like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along.
We will make a commission on these links, your rates are not impacted.

*Caru' cu bere* is the *best* restaurant in the old town, especially if you love meat and aren't watching the calories as the dinner servings are quite generous! You were lucky to be there off-peak as it is often fully booked in the evenings and weekends and they will turn you away (often quite rudely, even though you are a tourist and probably didn't know you needed to book!). I'll be watching to see if you discover a better restaurant during your travels in Romania. You will find cheaper (Caru' cu bere is in the main tourist centre so you expect it to be pricey) but will you be able to find better quality...? I look forward to watching more of your journey.

Great information 👍👍 we didn’t realize how exclusive the restaurant was. The food was very good and the lunch menu was great value.

9:38 at least 23 restaurants from Bucharest provide free meal (lunch) for all ukrainians ,just they must to show their passport and they will heave a menu of the day from that restaurant for free... here this restaurant show ukrainian flag to attract ukrainian refugees for a free lunch (or menu of the day)

Great prices and nice video. Romania looks interesting. Do I hear a bit of a Canadian accent for you two?

I think the drink was a black currant fruit.. As a child, growing up in Europe, we had a fizzy drink called cassis and it was made of black currants.. I loved it!

If you mean the caise jam, it is apricots
@WarrenJulieTravel

@@sstoi it’s the jam, but it’s very dark in color and didn’t taste like apricots. 🧐
@sstoi

@@WarrenJulieTravel probably just a countryside variant that we had before the introduction of mass-produced GMO's. The color is to be expected from homemade jam, it's just oxidization

@@sstoi That makes sense, GMO's are forbidden here in EU. At least in Romania they are. But you can find processed foods in supermarkets if you're into that.

Do you both have a video already showing the currency itself and its values, including change? That would be cool to watch. I have been fairly curious if they accepted u.s. or quid, than realized they wouldn’t take other country currency.

I suppose they mislabeled the jam jar. On the label it says apricot but the apricot jam should have been yellow or orange. This one seemed to be plum jam. If I am not mistaking I saw some plum skins in the jam 🙂

We drive our Citroen Berlingo we named Abbey around Europe, since we have dogs it’s the easiest way to get around with them. Here’s a video on the process, you’ll see her in several videos. I love dogs, but I don't want to see dogs at all restaurants where I go to. Dogs are not allowed at all restaurants in U.S. either. This should be mentioned negatively.
@WarrenJulieTravel
@WarrenJulieTravel 2 жыл бұрын
Many restaurants in Europe are dog friendly, especially outside patio areas. Europe is much more dog friendly in this regard than the US, no comparison. There are many well trained dogs that sit under a table that you’ll never know were there. This said, our channel is about our travels with our dogs, sharing our experiences and expenses to those that may wish to live or retire abroad, many with their dogs. Feel free to start your own channel and create your own content, we are not changing our lives or the content we produce about our dogs. If it bothers you, you have other viewing options.

Most of the central Restaurant are dog friendly, the Dracula one is a tourist trap and most likey they are not even people friendly.

Yes the majority are dog friendly, we got spoiled in Turkiye where everyone was welcoming of the dogs. We were caught off guard when we were told no dogs allowed. We had three restaurants tell us no in total in Bucharest.
