In the US our baby powder is now made from cornstarch, at least the brand I use. It's quite refined and lighter than regular cornstarch however and smells good.

Hi Froyle, I'm watching you at midnight in the UK, and you're really making me laugh. I live in a flat, and I suddenly realised that the neighbours may just think I've finally lost the plot!! I live alone you see😅😅😅. Thank you for a great tutorial - I love the effects from the interference paints and the cornstarch too. I heard recently that people are adding baking powder to their acrylic paints + water, and it makes the paint go further - particularly for paint pour art. I may try it on the Gelli plate tomorrow, to see what happens!! I love the prints you've done today - they put me in mind of Vincent Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' - beautiful. I think I prefer the baby powder, but both are lovely too. Best of luck with your move. It's very stressful isn't it - you're a sicker for punishment. Best of luck, I hope it all goes smoothly. This is so awesome! I'm still halfway through the video, but I can't wait to say.....I wonder what it would look like if you start with a paper that has fluorescent colours already on it!🤔 I would try pulling off over the cornstarch with gel medium in the hopes the corn starch will stay there

I think the corn flour absorbs the paint, so it doesn't stay white for a second pull. You have to reapply it. I like the blue/interference/gold/copper colors better, but the textures and prints on the first episode. Good luck moving again. I will miss you the next few weeks.

Wonderful ❤ I do something like this by putting cornstarch and/ or calcium carbonate in a salt shaker and using a brayer or spatula directly on the paper instead of a gel plate. I sometimes mix mica powder in the shaker as well.🎉

I think there both really cool. I think corn starch is a good alternative if you don’t have baby powder. It seems the baby powder is easier to distribute

In USA baby powder is based on cornstarch rather than talcum powder due to toxicity in talc! So basically it’s cornstarch with perhaps some fragrance added!

I like the soda results better because the powder splotches are finer. Perhaps using the strainer with the baby powder would turn out similar to this week's texture. However it would be interesting to see results using baking powder. Decorators use this combo to repurpose items from the thrift store or to transform seasonal craft items. They mix the baking powder into the paint and it starts a reaction that fluffy the paint and kinda looks like plaster. So thinking if its lightly dusted you might get a small local reaction with the paint. Anyway. Might be interesting. Ty for the play date!

FYI …. most if not all baby powders nowadays are corn starch …. here in the states at least ….. since the JJ class action suit, no more talc 😢

I love the prints! They are outstanding. But I would be careful with the cornstarch. Because it is plant based, it can grow mold once moisture is introduced. :-(

You're amazing. I've been watching all of your tutorials and want to try some of these projects. I do have one question. I'm still having inconsistency in the transfer of images. Specifically I can see the image (not always all of it) has transferred to the plate, but then I can't get it to transfer to the tissue paper or glassine paper. If that's happening frequently, does that mean I don't have enough paint on the plate to be removed? Thanks

Yes, you're probably right. have you tried pulling the transfer with another layer of paint, like a regular gelli print? That should definitely work! cheers!
