Seeing that tree from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves being mentioned, really makes me feel the impact that writing has on the world heritage. Thank you.

So sad today about the tree. being destroyed yesterday by vandals cutting it down ,beggers believe destroying history out of anger for no reason after hundreds of years of people respecting the history of the tree but not cutting it or to damage it.

Many years ago I, as a former Long Distance Walker, walked the length of the Wall from Walls End to Solway, with a friend, a former soldier, from a Book bought at Housestead Fort, during a visit with some English Friends in Newcastle. Sometimes it is hard to find as an actual "wall", though I remember a private field, with much water around, where it could be clearly seen as a dike in the grass! The local Farmer didn't quite agree to our jumping a fence to avoid walking in the most water! And a Family wanting to built a garage on their ground had to pay a lot for their land being searched for remnants, from E.H. before being allowed the built. Finn. Denmark

The inspiration for The Wall in ASOIAF. Do they have any reconstructions along the wall? I read that it was much taller in the past.

Love it. How much does DNA research show the international influence of that era on current (or long deceased) Scottish people?

Occupied England/Britain by the Romans the Picts from today's Scotland were a match to the Romans hit and run tactics these Roman soldiers were always going to be up against these Barbarians over the Wall 😂
@malcolmstead2727 ай бұрын
Barbarians? Is it not the Romans who were the invaders? It was not the Picts, they occupied the very North East of what is now Scotland, the tribe around the wall were the Brigantes. Not much is said about the Roman opposition, but they were feared enough to create a 20 foot wall, a ditch, lookout towers every third of a mile, a castle every mile with 50 men and a fort every four miles with a 1000 men, also two very large supply forts just south of the wall, what a great cost to repel some barbarians.
