The coat of arms of Loja was donated by King Philip II of Spain, on March 5, 1571. The monarch's desire was to turn Loja into a FORTRESS CITY. The protective walls in Loja were never built. Currently, a door has been built, equal to the one on the shield donated by Philip II.

Loja in terms of daily highs can be the same and up to around 10 degrees cooler, nights are at least 10 degrees cooler on average.

For the cost of groceries we spend on our crew here in the US, ($200 a week)we could eat out for every meal and still save money! insane! Keep the short vids coming. Love your content guys; thank you. I left a couple questions on youtube a month or two ago, but didn't hear back from y'all. But I'm sure your super busy, and that it's probably difficult to get to everybody without somebody's questions being missed. In any case, I know that for me to succeed long-term should I come down to this area, that I am going to want to be connected with community, and in particular the expressive, and healing arts. So I'm wondering if any of you would happen to have any suggestions for names of any groups I could get in touch with now while I'm still in the states, and how I would begin getting in contact with them? Looks great but what about safety there in the southern part of the country...had heard there are gold mines in that region that are being harassed by cartels..was considering Loja as retirement option but now not so sure...nice video and good info

We live here, our families are here and we love it here so some might not accept that as unbiased… that said, we have no desire or inclination to move. The Loja region is one of the safest in the country. Most of the cartel activity and murders are concentrated in the port cities and coastal areas. Every community in the world has their issues… this is Earth full of humans, but this is one of the best places we’ve ever lived.

It’s nice to make these videos for fellow gringos, but as someone with a native point of view. Your .60 cent dog food is a damn good meal for an Ecuadorian whose daily wage is 10.00/. day or less.

Full meals with soup, full plate with choice of protein, plus rice, beans, vegetable, salad and a drink is anywhere between 2.50-3.50USD. Sometimes you get desert too! For reference, Ecuadorian minimum wage in 2024 is $460 USD per month.
