Sweet, strong and savory, Port is one of the world's most famous wines. Join your host Michael Fagan as we travel east along the mighty Douro by train and see the incredibly steep, hot and rocky terrain where Port grapes are grown and must be laboriously picked by hand. Meet some of Portugal's most distinguished producers and examine the many different styles of Port as we transcend the traditional pairing of Port with Stilton and discover Port's versatility. Produced in 2000

Hi, Greetings From Mumbai, India. I am a Great Lover Of Port Wine as I am an Indian Catholic Christian Of Portuguese Descent from the Former Portuguese Colony of Goa On The West Coast Of India. In Goa, Port Wine is abundantly available. There are several brands of Port Wine available for sale in Goa. I have been drinking Port Wine From The Age of 10 specially for Family Lunch and Dinner over a week end. Port Wine is really awesome in more ways than one. Port is my favourite Wine along with Classic Italian Red Wine namely Chianti. I totally dig anything and everything connected with Portuguese Food an d Portuguese Culture. Douro is my Favourite Wine Producing Region in Portugal. This is an Awesome, Amazing, and Informative Video.

I have a bottle of Porto Kopke Fine Ruby that was opened 5 years ago. Only one glass poured and recorked. I opened it just before this program and it was still wonderful. I don't think ports normally last this long so I feel blessed. Now time to open an unopened bottle of Sandman that was purchased 3 years ago. Wonderful ports.

This is very interesting! At 7:55 what João Nicolau de Almeida wanted to say was that the Schist is in a vertical position, not horizontal, but this a very important factor many times overlooked. It's fascinating to see those thin roots just exploring the fissures in the schist trying to survive! At 14:17 there's a good graph to take away. Found it funny to see Port & Tonic was already being talked about 20 years ago at 15:03! Thank you for producing and sharing this :)

Get two or three friends together - who you love. Share with them a bottle of fine, rare Vintage port (Like a Quinta Do Noval). Kill the bottle and mark the date, for you'll remember it all your life. You see - unlike any other wine - port has a mystical, emotional effect - not to be confused with inebriation, relaxation, digestion or slumber, although those thing might naturally occur. What you'll always remember is the bonhomie, cameraderie and bruderschaft resultant from that rare moment in time with help from that magical wine.

A point about Age Statement Tawnys 10, 20, 30, 40 - they are not a true average age of the wine inside. They are a blend of various aged wines deemed to taste like and have the characteristics of a 10 year old, or 20 year old for example.

It isn't really brandy, it's called aguardiente but it's very dissimilar to drinkable brandies. As far as I am aware I think most producers of port produce their own aguardiente too.

@@michellem7290 your comment is full of ignorance. The Biritsh people didn't just "go to someone else's country" - they asked for a permission to start their commercial activities in Portugal and the Portuguese king gave it to them. They also paid expensive for that permission. And which resources are they "extracting"? we are talking about grapes that grow on vines! And the British merchants BOUGHT these goods, they certainly didn't confiscate or steal them with an army. And thanks to their commercial prowess, their businesses became successful which, in return, brought money and wealth to the region of Porto - it certainly contributed in providing poor peasants with a better income. It was and it still is a win-win situation for everyone, and the club meetings for Brits only are probably just a ritual, a simple tradition established over time. But here you are, ignorant social justice warrior, talking about colonialism and all of that nonsense. what a disgrace

do you think popi plantation farmers are guilty in the drugs war? are consumers guilty? or are the dealers guilty? im of the opinion that the dealer is not only the most guilty but actually soly responsible for the situation. connecting people. so under this premiss we quickly see that americans purchasing slaves were customers. black folk capturing themselfs were farmers. and the portuguese were the dealers. you can shout all u want about the treatment of slaves and keep quiet about black folk farming themselfs. but dont ever mention what the portuguese really are. cose then by how u affiliate with them it makes u one of them. if you visit you are infact supporting individuals who profited from being slave dealers. portugal didnt profit much from discovery. mostly it was slavery.
