Nice video, these sleepers are really good to be honest, and the price is equally as agreeable. Looking forward to more content! 👍

Fun fact, Astra Transcarpatic is owned by rolling stock manufacturer Astra Vagoane Calatori. AVC is based in Arad and they don't manufacture just carriages, but also some trams in Arad and Bucharest. Now this isn't the only private operator owned by a rolling stock firm, Softrans is owned by Softronic who operate their own EMUs on routes like Bucuresti-Brasov, București-Constanța and Bucuresti-Craiova.
@ExplorebyRail4 ай бұрын
Yass, the Astra carriages are actually very well known in all of Europe. And I absolutely get why: They are top quality! And don't you worry: A video about Softrans own EMU is coming soon as well (their quality is a little more mediocre though :D)
@skyde724 ай бұрын
@@ExplorebyRail true but you need to remember, Softronic doesn't make rail coaches, they specialize in Locomotives and stuff. Fun fact, they are currently delivering locomotives to Green Cargo

Just to nitpick a little bit at the comment of "Soviet architecture". Romania was not part of the Soviet Union and had its own brand of communism, so maybe "communist architecture" would be a more suitable description. A lot of people seem to think that Romania was a Soviet country and they speak some sort of Slavic language or Russian. That is obviously not the case, Romanian being a romance (Latin) language.
@ExplorebyRail2 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right. It's communist artworks, not "Soviet". I should have phrased this a little clearer. Romania - just like all Warsaw pact states - was heavily influenced by the Soviet Union though. Many Germans would call architectural and cultural characteristics from times of the GFR in eastern Germany "Soviet" as well - even if it's historically at least a little misleading. I'll try my best to be more precise:)

I've been on this train. Had hot water though limited water pressure but then ots a shower on a train! Also had salmi amd cheese baguette and coffee free for breakfast. 500 RON for 2 of us a good price. Best train i had travelling from london to istanbul. No Restaurant car disappointing but they seem to be much scarcer in balkans generally than they used to be - didn't find any in bulgaria.

Good to hear you had a great experience and were a little more lucky with the hot water :D I'll definitely take the train again some time - maybe I'll be luckier that time :)

The Arad train station had a sister in Wienna. It was built by the Austro-Hungarians. in the centre you will find a classical Austro-Hungarian city although in decay. In some places you could also find some bullet-holes from the revolution that also saw fighting happen in the city. The cities best Landmark is the Fortress where Princip, the assassin of Franz Ferdinand was held. It is unfortunately still occupied by the army.

I will surely explore the city when I'm back!

That seems it's hauled by a Croatian locomotive! By the way, do you want to go to Kraków, my city? We have a lot of locally produced trains, even foreign-branded like Stadler FLIRT, which're produced in Siedlce. Also, our country has modernised and reopened it's rail lines and stations (especially the Tomaszów Mazowiecki-Kielce line, which reintroduced a rail service to Końskie)😂😂😂!!!

Kraków definitely is on my list!

The locomotive is a Swedish design (Rb) från the early 1960:s produced by ASEA. Some of the were made in Sweden however most of the were produced under licence in both Yugoslavia (4 wheels) and Romania (6 wheels). Then lcocmotives were traded between them at a ratio of 1:1,42.

It's not a luxury train. Compared to the disastrous public transport conditions in Romania, it's indeed of a high standard, it's true. There should at least be a buffet car where you can have a hot breakfast, the price of which is included in the price of the sleeping car ticket. Moreover, in the summer season, the train runs all the way to Constanta. In fact, even a dining car wouldn't be wasted. Useful video, thank you!
@ExplorebyRail3 ай бұрын
Yeah. It's a shame no dinner car is available. That actually would be my only real criticism of the train. For everything else - like the condition of the infrastructure - astra trans carpatic is not responsible
@mmm919113 ай бұрын
For a night train I don't think a dining car would be justified. Breakfast, maybe.

No, it's common in romania to send packages to people like this. You pay the train staff some money and describe who will arrive to pick the package up and from what station. They usually do help you out like this since it's free and easy money for them and it's also faster for you(if you have a direct train route) than paying a courier or the postal service.
@kumatmebro3152 ай бұрын
Seems pretty expensive to me?
@ExplorebyRail2 ай бұрын
It's in fact one of the cheapest Night Trains I have ever travelled on. Relative to Romanias GDP per Capita it is quite expensive though, yeah :D
@hyperionlightseeker18145 күн бұрын
For that price I'd take a plane to be honest. Sadly in romania trains are incredibly slow because of bad infrastructure, because of the corrupted politicians. So for the same price or cheaper i could get to Bucuresti and 10 times faster

Where is the luxury? Is a simple train.
