Loved it. To see the birds handled with care, I did not mind missing the slaughter scene but thought it was wonderful to see the processing. Always great to see a farmer that respects what he does and his livestock. Well done VTX for sharing... Cheers..

I raised some quail in my apartment. lol. its true, it was a bit messy, but I was raising my own food in a very little space. I hated killing them but got good at it. learned to cook them, yummy. but I removed the skin so didnt have to pluck them. plus i had all the eggs i could eat. sadly I quit because to be honest it just got a bit too messy and smelly in my apartment. but i sure had fun for a while.

When raising Quail, the most important thing in the hygiene (smell) is to keep the droppings dry DRY, DRY, DRY.hardly any smell when droppings are dry. Wet bird manure (quail) is evil olfactory punishment. Regular washing of the cages and pads and blow them dry with my wife's hair dryer (I Got her a new one).

I'm glad he raises animals in a more human way. I saw the chicken and pig farm where chicken do not have place to move and fight each others and pig stand in an individual cage where the pig could not even turn around and scratch their butt till the slautering day. The mental and physical torture that those chicken and pigs have to suffer are beyond comprehention. Because they can't speak and tell people how horrendous they suffer.

@@RedfishInc their entire staff save for two men are mexican because employers will pay for cheap labor and immigrants stereotypically take the jobs no one else wants to do, that's why. Are any birds ever released into the wild for conservation or is this another entirely different aspect of quail farming?
@makerealitygreatagain88094 жыл бұрын
These are native to Asia and Europe, so you would not release them into the USA eco system. Pretty sure that would be illegal. I doubt it would do any damage but you never know. They breed faster than other quail species that live in the US, so they might end up being hot competition, which would be a huge problem. 6 weeks only for these to mature to adults and begin reproducing. 5 months for native american species of quail. So you can imagine the problem that might occur.

@@makerealitygreatagain8809 I'm pretty sure Canada has started to release Coturnix quail to help with their dwindling native quail population

Do you sterilize the eggs before you put them in the incubator
@LostInWestTexas4 жыл бұрын
President Trump 2020 You don’t want to sterilize them. It removes the protective bloom the eggs get when laid, and allows bacteria into the shell if you do.

@@MajimeTV Thanks for that. I suspect the UK will have similar problems now we have left the EU. But I suspect the coronavirus will have an impact on where the labour comes from and the price having to be payed for it.
@MajimeTV4 жыл бұрын
@@ronmartinmhg2804 hopefully for the better. Workers deserve a living wage. People need to curb their overconsumption of meat and dairy and we need more small sustainable farmers, especially here in the USA where our farmers aren't allowed to sell milk if their processor tells them to dump it so as to keep the prices fixed, rather than feeding homeless and hungry children.

@MajimeTV4 жыл бұрын
This was an informative video but I see so many flaws in the rearing. New quail should be introduced for genetic diversity. The waterers should be the dome cups. We see a few quail laying dead off to the side likely due to inability to get enough water. As for all the racist comments: employers will pay for cheap labor and immigrants stereotypically take the jobs no one else wants to do, that's why they all appear to be mexican. When Mexicans held a work strike that about 40% of the US population of them participated in back in 2006, May Day, it was insanely detrimental to the US Economy. The strike was for a guaranteed minimum wage for non-citizens which was $2.15/hour even for non-tipped workers. Perhaps you noticed the increase in produce and dairy prices during this time. Employees still have to be over 18 to work in meat processing and I assure you they are all legal unless this rancher was willing to risk hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines for paying people under the table on video. Meat packing is highly regulated.
