I can not have game birds in my town but I hide them in a walk in dog kennel outfitted in hardware cloth and a shade canopy tucked in the corner alongside a shed. You totally can do it

Before we had to sell our 8 acres (but in a restricted development), we considered quail. We were going to do them out behind the garage because of no back or side neighbors. The birds are so quiet and grow out so fast. Now that we're in the suburbs (health issues, sigh), we're still considering it! Check out YTer Slightly Rednecked. And good luck! ~ Kir

I never would have thought about plucking the quail. All I have experienced or seen has been skin them out. Claire (?) makes a good case for plucking, selling the feathers to Fly Fisherfolks is a good idea. I don't know any that don't have at least one fly tying rig.

Very cool. First pasture quail i've ever seen. My quail produce the waste which feeds my black soldier fly larvae. I have to psyche myself up for the cull. It isn't pleasant. My hens have injured multiple roosters to the point where I had to kill them. Thank you for sharing.

Jason this was really a great video. And great job introducing her farm to others. Like others have said I thought at first that tiny plucker was a toy. The tractor further was a interesting design. The problem with them potentially injuring themselves if they didn't have enough or to much head room is another factor in building their tractor for sure. And yes, they are game birds, their not going to domesticate. About the pigs,I have heard good things about that breed. But I'm leaning more towards the Kunekune pigs originally from New Zealand. At about half the size of standard breeds that actually prefer to graze and their snouts are such that they really don't like to dig up your pasture as long as they are moved enough. A great alternative for those of us who don't have lots of acreage for your livestock. Jason, do more videos like this, well done. 😃👍🌤

Haha they do love to jump, don't they? We had button quail in the house & they used to bonk their heads on the top of the cage all the time. So we put them in a very long fish tank so that greatly reduced it bcz they could run, but still they should have had both length & height, which they did in summer in an outdoor cage we made. The babies they hatched were crazy tiny! 7 fit easily within the palm of my hand.
