When we went to Lake Atitlán, Guatemala last spring we were thrilled to meet Maria on an experience we booked to learn how to weave in the Mayan tradition in the small town of San Pedro.
Get a behind-the-scenes look at the traditional art of Guatemalan textile weaving in this informative video. Our expert craftsmen showcase the intricate techniques and intricate designs that go into creating these stunning works of art. Whether you're a fan of traditional art forms or simply appreciate the beauty of hand-crafted textiles, this video is a must-watch. So come along on this journey and discover the magic of Guatemalan textile weaving.
We were wowed beyond our expectations, and enjoyed every minute of getting to know Maria (and her husband Jose) while we slowly began to get the hang of weaving. It's harder than it looks!
If you have ever wondered what it is like to visit Guatemala or what the people and culture are like, this is for you. Our experience in Guatemala was an absolute dream, not only because the landscape is absolutely breathtaking, but mainly because of people like Maria and Jose. They invite you into their home with nothing but love and kindness.
Let us know what you think in the comments :)

How beautiful is this! Looks like a fairly easy and self explanatory craft right! 😅 Love the closeups and music in this one 🎥 🫀

Yea we wish! She was such a good teacher. The close up of María’s hands specifically were our favorite. Glad you liked it!

Very cool video, and you guys are so right, learning these old time honored skills is so very important, I myself am a prolific hand quilter, and I’m seeing less and less of people wanting to learn these beautiful traditions. Thank you again I really enjoyed watching 👍

Hello Cassie/Nate, This was such a great video!! Thank for sharing this experience! I couldn’t wait to see if you’d share the contact info in this video - but there’s no ph#. ❓ Would it be possible for you to post it - even on Instagram? That be an awesome experience to book, I’ll be traveling to Guatemala in January 2025. Thank you!! Hope you’re all having fun!!
