This is great. I feel like the section where you were greenscreened could have benefited by labeling which of the waveforms was being represented in the x plane and which was in the y plane. I lost track and had to use some of my attention capacity to figure it out instead of listening.

Loved the video! Have you other examples of lissajous figures use in physics?

A long time ago, when I doing my apprenticeship in an electronics workshop, I was looking through a cupboard looking for a test box, when I found a small diecast box labelled “The flying arsehole”. I asked my boss:” What’s this?”, and he told me to plug in the power to plus/minus 12v, and the outputs X and Y or an oscilloscope X and Y. I did that, and presto! I saw a circle which expanded and contracted and moved round the screen. It was making a Lissajous figure which was being modulated to make it expand and contract and get a small offset to make it move around the screen. It looked exactly like there was an “asshole” flying round the screen. I put it back in the bottom of the cupboard, and as far as I know it’s still there, amusing apprentices for generations to come!

What would a 3D lissajous pattern look like? What if the ratios aren't integers, or are they always integers but just very large?
